I've had a lot of people tell me not to waste money on maternity clothes what are your thoughts? Is it worth spending extra money on?

I already have some things & they're so comfy idk how girls these days can stand to wear their regular clothes. I def think it's worth spending a little extra on especially when all your normal clothes are too small.

I think it's worth it, you don't have to spend loads but you wanna be comfortable!

Im currently rubber banding my jeans but bought a bella band for later, plus some maxi skirts that I will be able to wear after baby too. May spend a little bit on just a couple shirts but otherwise really will be trying to not spend hardly anything.

I have purchased a few items, mostly pants....more for comforts sake than anything else. Motherhood (if you are in the US) has some pretty reasonable prices & cute styles :)

I think I will prob end up buying some dresses and some shorts to get me through the summer...

Good luck :flower:

Half & Half.

Maternity clothes are well over priced esp in top retailers just for bit of extra material.

Personally ive never bought many mat stuff due to fact i couldnt afford it.
With my first i just bought larger sizes from primark and spent next to nothing.

I am just using hair band on my jeans at the bottom. Im just going to ebay this time.

I get maternity clothes in the sale (ASOS in great for this) or in good condition off ebay. They're pretty attractive, comfy and fit nicely - so I still feel good when I'm wearing them. even if I do look like a "people carrier" in DHs words ;)

I bought a few tops today but they were pretty cheap and some were in the sale. I have to look smart at work so can't simply keep buying the next size up as the shoulders would look ridiculous. I'm certainly not going overboard though and managed to pick up some great maternity jeans in the sale a couple of weeks back. Have a look around, not all of the maternity wear is overpriced. I also ordered a dress today as I have a couple of weddings to go to in July and it was very reasonably priced.

Just noticed we have the same due date :) :flower:

I've bought quite a few tops and have a few pairs of non maternity leggings and jeggings. I went through a phase of being really upset and feeling so frumpy, all my regular clothes were too short so I bought some maternity items and definitely worth it for me I started to feel much better. My mum bought me a few things too as she knew I was feeling down x

I also got most of mine in the asos sale and from asda (hope this helps if you're in uk)

I say, whatever you do, you have to be comfortable. So if that means buying a size up, great! If you buy maternity, great! Everyone is different! Honestly, after my last trip to the maternity store, I had such a terrible experience, I am going to just go to my regular clothing store and buy what I want when the time comes. Their stuff fits me well, is cute and flattering and I always get good service. Plus, I know they will have stuff that is a little more modest which I prefer.

I guess you are only in them for such a sort time, it seems like such a waste of money. Last time I didn't bother, I just worked around it and wasn't uncomfortable at all. This time I'm a lot bigger, but still won't buy maternity clothes. They are a rip off, so I'm just buying comfy stretchy clothes that I can use once baby is here and my tummy is readjusting back down again.

I guess if it's your first and you plan on more kids then go for it. Last time I was pregnant in winter, but finding normal clothes much harder to bear in the warmer weather. So seasons do play a part too.

For me buying maternity clothes is a must for comfort. I live in my jeans, and I love them just as much when I'm pregnant. Old navy has some very comfortable maternity jeans for $25 when they are on sale, which is often enough. Motherhood maternity is a bit pricey, but they usually have some sort of deal going on, eg buy 3 get 1 free or some other coupon deal. Don't forget the consignment stores either, I found one where shirts are under $10 each and since it's consignment everything is in great shape. Like a pp my issue is finding more of a modest style of maternity clothes. Also just to add a lot of maternity clothes are made to still look good on you well after pregnancy.

With my first I think I could have made do with a few pairs of maternity trousers/jeans from about 18 weeks onwards but this time i've been in maternity everything since about 14 weeks and i'm already pulling down some of my maternity tops as they feel too short! I've bought all my maternity stuff on clearance/otherwise discounted or secondhand on eBay though, wouldn't pay over the odds for anything.

personally i couldnt live without my maternity clothes. i would never be comfortable in anything else. im quite small size 8-10 and have previously had big beach ball style bumps - no way normal clothes would look good/smart if they were 3 or 4 sizes too big.

i dont go mad though, maternity jeans are a must, a couple of t-shirts, couple of dresses. normal cardigans are good to keep you warm and normal coats can be worn unzipped. i never bothered with maternity tights. i could still wear normal leggings. a maternity swimsuit is a must if you are not confident to wear a bikini.

i think being selective is the key!

I didn't want to buy many maternity clothes but I unfortunately have had to as felt too uncomfortable :-( I've got some dresses though that aren't maternity and they fit lovely. Will need to get a few more. Just make sure you feel comfortable.

I have got some and and am sooooo comfy in them. I got loads off eBay and in the sales. I got some jeans and linen trousers then vests and tops for work to wear with them then will just wear my cardies but wear them undone xx

I find you can get away with normal tops that are a good shape (gathered under the bust, or tunic style) but I don't think I could cope without maternity trousers/skirts. Even normal leggings are too tight around the middle. This is baby #2 for me and I've been in maternity jeans for a few weeks already. I buy a lot of stuff on ebay, many people sell their things in a bundle so you could get a few things for a good price x

I put off buying maternity jeans with my first for a long time, I had the same opinion that it was a waste of money. But then I got a pair of maternity pants from a friend and OMGGGG I was so mad that I had waited so long to even try them! They were SO much more comfortable than anything I was wearing. I was using the belly band with all my regular clothes, having to constantly pull them up, adjust the back, it was a pain and I never realized it could be so much better lol.

I say invest in one or two pairs of pants and a pair of shorts. Wait to see if you get really big and if shirts are needed. I can still fit into most of my regular shirts and those don't cause any discomfort. But you don't have to buy super high end stuff. I got most of my maternity stuff at Ross for like under $15 each. Some of those maternity stores are ridiculous, I wouldn't pay half of what they're asking on regular clothes! But yes, at least pants/shorts, are very worth it! You can also find good stuff at second hand stores sometimes if you look hard enough. I got some good work clothes there.

I went about 50/50. I didn't go to any high end maternity stores, I bought all of my maternity stuff at old navy on sale. I got 2 pairs of jeans, 1 pair of pants, 1 pair of shorts, a few tanks and 2 dresses for a very reasonable price. Then I got a bunch of non maternity clothing that will work throughout my pregnancy, maxi dresses, long tanks that have stretch and shirts that are long and have roucheing in them. I actually got a lot of stuff at H&M for super cheap! Everything that I got I will be able to wear after the baby comes too hopefully if it's not too stretched!

I tried the elastic band with my normal pants thing for a while and it was just way too uncomfortable.

I would just take a day to go shopping, try on lots of things at different store. Remember that as your belly grows, length and stretch in tops is the most important. I found myself way more comfortable and feeling better about my body in tight fitting tops, rather than flawy ones that hide things.. and I am not that small! 5'4, 195lbs, size 12-14. (Lg-XL) depending on the style.

I went with a friend who loves shopping, has great fashion sense and has been pregnant before so she understood the ordeal. I hate shopping so this was super helpful and I never would have ended up with the amazing preg wardrobe that I did without her!

I think at least 2 pairs of comfortable pants/shorts is a must~! Oh yeah.. and maternity legging is a must for me too~! Other than that... I have a few of the summer type dresses that can stretch (and I can wear it afterward) and I have <5 maternity tops (all hand-me-downs from my sisters). I'm usually in those baby doll type or very loose/flowy tops that I can wear and fit my belly (before and after baby too).
