Maternity Leave!!

Here in Quebec we get one full year paid at a lower percentage. We are allowed to start our maternity leave at any point as long as there is less than 16 weeks until your due date. I want as much time with baby as possible so I'm going to try and work for as long as I can - up until delivery if possible but that may be wishful thinking.

I will hopefully work up to 36 weeks. I have quite an active job so I don't know how I'm going to cope but hopefully it will be ok. I keep putting it off but I haven't figured the money side of maternity leave out yet but hey ho. I work for the NHS so I'm aware they have quite a good maternity package so do feel lucky.

Wow, a lot of these posts make me very grateful to work for the NHS in the UK, their mat leave policy is really excellent and I'll be able to take at least 9 months off without losing out on very much money. I'm only 15 weeks at the moment, but so far planning on working until about 37/38 weeks. I kind of wanted to go right the way up but a good friend told me to take a few weeks off, as it's the last time you'll have to yourself in a long time, so you should enjoy it!

Hey. Sorry to butt in. I work for the nhs too and am fully aware we are lucky for such a good maternity package. I plan to take a year off but spread the money over the 12 months. But do you know what months the maternity leave is based on?? I've got a feeling it will be July and August pay but a lady at work said it's the two before you go on maternity leave. It's a pain as I never earn the same amount of money as I get subs and driving allowances, etc so I don't actually know how much I will be earning over the next two months. It's a shame as my January and Feb wages was so good :dohh:

The plan is to work up until I go into labor...

I just spoke with the HR at work today about how time off works. I'm thinking about taking 10 weeks... some will be unpaid.

I'm going to mat leave at 32 weeks, I have 5 months fully paid leave. I need some bonding time with my son before baby arrives. :)

I have no proof in life generally whatsoever but every lady at my office who worked past 36 weeks had her baby early!! (Full term but early)... With DD I worked until 37 weeks. She was born 2 weeks later - I had the whole of London 2012 to enjoy and waters broke during the closing ceremony!!! Anyway it made me put off mat leave for an extra week as I didn't want to go overdue!!!

Now I'm a Sahm I'll be 2 weeks late!!! Xx
