I'm booked for a c-section due to problems with baby. Last time I had natural birth and used maternity pads after birth. I bought some for this time but then I thought "oh do you need thick pads?" Are maternity pads for comfort or just good for heavy bleeding?
What did you use if you had a c-section before?
Thanks

maternity pad, you still bleed quite a bit, just like after a vaginal delivery. well i'm guessing you do, both mine were sections and I still used maternity pads, its meant to be better to use as it doesn't have the same chemicals as a thick period pad would.

My first c section I bled so little panty liners would have been overkill. My second I soaked a maternity pad every hour for the first 48 hours and was very close to a transfusion. Buy some, you may or may not need them. They suction a lot out during a c section that has to pass naturally with a vaginal birth, but if you don't clot as well you will still bleed a lot afterwards.

Thanks, I didn't know if they were a comfort thing as the are nice and soft, as I needed comfort last time! I imagine I'll bleed a lot as last time I did the whole 6 weeks!

I bleed more after my vaginal birth than my 2 sections but I still needed maternity pads for the first few days.

Whilst I was in hospital I used maternity pads but didn't really need them at all tbh. A normal pad would have been enough..Once I got home I just used the big always pads as they were more secure for about 5 days (again I could have managed with smaller but was cautious) and then switched to little pads. By about 3 weeks I was in tiny panty liners but they were barely needed. Maybe just get a small packet incase you need them for through the night?

I needed them for the first few days

Maternity pads hace a different absorbtion rate or method, and allow your lochia to be assessed easier. That is what we get told here :-). I wrnt through at least 40 pads with each baby and had 2 sections.

They don't sell maternity pads at any stores here, so after I used the hospital pads I just used period pads.

I used the maternity pads for the entire time I was in the hospital, and a few days after. You will still bleed, and possibly quite a bit at first. At the hospital I was in, I was allowed to take any materials they left in the room home with me, so I grabbed a big stack of those pads!
