Anyone know if there are any big diffferences between the two carseats?

I went into John Lewis this weekend to try out both as I'd only just heard about the Pebble - the new carseat that is meant to be phasing out the Cabriofix. To be honest, I really couldn't tell much difference at all and the sales people weren't much help with any extra info. I'd heard that the Pebble was meant to be lighter, but when I picked them both up (one in each hand) the Pebble definitely felt heavier than the Cabriofix!

It's quite a bit more expensive and doesn't seem worth it to me but thought I'd ask in case I'm missing something great about the Pebble.

I was in Kiddicare a week or so ago looking at the Quinny 3 and the sales lady in there told me the Pebble has a better head support for a baby (it was a different shape but I can't really remember the full spiel, sorry). She also said the Pebble has some kind of automated mechanism so that when you press it to open, the lower bar bit flips forward, making it easier to lift baby out of the seat.

I was told that there isn't all that much in it..... basically some extra padding, different choice of colours and the head support was slightly different.

I went with the cabriofix in the end up.... couldn't justify the extra money when I really couldn't see the difference.

The good thing about the pebble if you are using it with isofix is that pebble works with their family fix base. Now the family fix base lasts until the child is about 4 so it sees you right the way through. You just upgrade the seat when the child grows out of the pebble, at about 18 months. The next seat (sorry can't remember the name of it off the to of my head) then lasts you all the way through to 4 years old, using the same base you started out with, so its a sound investment.

The cabriofix and its isofix base only last until 18months so you are faced with having to buy a new car seat as well as a new isofix base after that.

If you are not using isofix, then I have heard the cabriofix is great.

Hubby and I have decided to buy 2 x isofix bases, one for each of our cars and one pebble seat, that way whoever's car we use, the seat clips in easily and is very safe for the baby, plus no hassle with seatbelts.

Hope that helps!

the pebble wont work with most travel systems though - you'll find 9 times out of 10 it'll be a cabriofix that fits onto the chassis

Ive found that if you buy the cabrio fix and the isofix base then another stage 2/3 isofix carseat for when the baby is older it is infact CHEAPER than buying the pebble, family base and older family base seat.
Thats why i bought the cabrio frix plus it fits onto my bee :)

i went into mothercare and ended up trying both in my car and prefered the cabrio as it felt sturdier, also when I asked about Cabrio only having a base that lasted 9-12months i was told this in not the case, the cabrio does work with an easybase which will last until LO is 4ish..

I couldn't tell that the pebble was meant to be lighter either and the few other improvements didn't really seem to be worth the extra money but what swung it for us was that the Pebble does not fit on the Bugaboo, which is our pram, so it had to be the cabriofix. Which incidentally also fits on the Family Base so you don't need to buy a new base when you change car seats.

HTH

The cabriofix will fit on the family fix base, I got it in a maxicosi brochure I bought, and confirmed at the store I'm buying my icandy from.

I couldnt find much between pebble and cabriofix so for now leaning toward cabriofix.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for all the replies, looks like a lot of us are thinking along the same lines.

I'm not too fussed about being able to use the same base with the next car seat. By that point the car seat will live in the car permanently rather than being used as part of a travel system so will probably just fix it in with the seatbelt.

I went for the Pebble over the Cabriofix, but only because I thought it looked a lot better. It seems cozier as well? Anyway, don't think there are a lot of differences between the two.
