I'm new to this idea of random spotting on and off throughout a cycle. The last couple months it happens to me at very random times, and its almost a "rush" of blood that is not super heavy but at least "medium" amounts, and then just as quickly as it comes on it goes away for days, only to happen again at another random time.

What, if anything, does this mean for fertility or lack thereof?

I never experienced this during my ttc #1. It just started happening this time during ttc #2.

For example, it happened today which is CD 8. there is no explanation for spotting like ovulation or implantation on a day like today. So this is very perplexing to me.

It is likely break through bleeding. It can be caused by minor fluctuations of hormones. If it happens a ton or is accompanied by cramps you might want to check with your doctor. For some women, though, it is normal.
