So right now I'm in the hospital with Jack...he is being treating with antibiotics for meningitis. They aren't sure yet which strain it is but he is very very poorly :nope:

We won't know until Monday which one it is but for now the antibiotics are a broad spectrum which will give him a head start.

He had a temp last night so we gave him calpol and let him sleep. He was no different this morning so we took him into the out of hours doctor.

As we were talking we started to notice spots appearing that wouldn't fade when pressed. He got more of them and his breathing became quite quite rapid. The doctor literally ran off and came back within seconds with a dose of penicillin. He jabbed his lege and said it was nessecary and within minutes we were being rushed to the ward :nope:

He's he got admitted and he is being monitored hourly, 3 different lots of antibiotics going in every 8 hours and paracetamol every 4.

He is responsive but really I'll...I just don't know what to do with myself...not sure why I'm writing this tbh but I'm confused and a bit lost.

I don't know what the antibiotics are the he is having, don't know when he will be home...

Does anyone have any experience of this? I not sure at this point what to expect:shrug::nope:

I haven't any experience but I couldn't read and run..massive hugs hun, you must be going out of your mind with worry, I can't even imagine. Hope he recovers very quickly :hugs::hugs::hugs:

Don't have any advice but just wanted to send you hugs and really hope your boy gets better soon. It must be very worrying but the doctors know what they're dealing with so he is in the best place to make what is hopefully a very speedy recovery x

oh my god - i can't imagine what you're going through :( huge hugs. Our LOs are similar age too.
All I know about meningitis is my little bro had it when he was 3 - he's 30 this year. He had the bacterial one though, not meningococcal.

Sending major get well vibes your way xx

My little sister developed Meningitis, menincoccol at aged 10 months. She was put into a coma as soon as we got into hospital, as the blemishes were all over her. We were told she might not make it, as she had the worst strain possible..

She was put on a ventilator, given 6 different tubes of antibiotics through a drip and kept in her coma for 5 days. On the 6th day she woke up... She was on dialysis, blood tranfusions.. The lot.

As bad as we were told it was, she's perfectly normal, happy and healthy. She has a few scars on her thigh from the sceptecemia, where it was worst. But other than that she's perfect.

Try not to worry until you're given a reason to.. She had the worst strain, and because it was caught earlier, as was yours... She is fine. PM me if you need to talk, I know how it feels to be sat at that bedside :( x

I'm so sorry hun I have no advice but I hope you're LO gets better soon :hugs: x

Sendin big hugs and prayers your way. I'll be thinking about you and praying for you and your LO. Get well soon sweet baby.

oh god. I can't even imagine... hoping for the absolute best. hang in there.

My DH contracted pneumococcal meningitis in 2001. He was in intensive care and they told us to fear the worst. 11 years on and he's absolutely fine.

The key to treating meningitis is to catch it early. They've done that and that's really positive.

I'm so sorry you're having to go through this. I hope your little man makes a very speedy recovery. :hugs:

Thank you everyone...he's much the same but no worse at least, due anti b's at 6am again...
His temp is a high ish but stable 38 but no bloods back yet

Heard the nurses talking earlier on about him though and they mentioned meningococcal and that 'good job they came n when they did, caught that one very early!'

The spots didn't even start coming out until we were talking tithe doctor and credit to him he only found them because he thought to look. They were so small they could easily have been missed. He went straight for the penicillin jab and had his anti b's in him right away.

They're brilliant here, there was talk of him being allowed home but keeping the line in so he could come back twice a day for his antibiotics but I don't know if they will allow it yet

Thanks for listening to me ramble  and thanks for your kind words xx

:hugs: I really hope he improves quickly. He got the anti biotics into him very quickly by the sounds of it so that's definitely a positive to look at! Poor little man xx
