Hi Ladies

Im currently on Metformin to. I was wondering what experiences you ladies have had with it. Before I went on Metformin i was on the contraceptive pill becasue I was diagnosed with PCOS after missing 8 months of my periods and gained weight. So I never had periods on my own. So I was put on 500mg of metformin three times a day. I started at 500mg once a day for a week and gradually took the dose up, and at the same time I changed my diet I didn't follow by a specific one I just chose low in fat foods, cut down my portion sizes and did daily exercise. I lost weight so quickly I lost nearly 2 stone in just over a month and to my suprise at the same time my periods returned, for the past 7 months in a row!! And before this I never had them on my own. My periods have started ranging from 29-35 days and lasting between 4-7 days. Is this a good sign??? Does it mean im possible ovulating? Because I heard that you have to ovulate to have a period because the level of LH triggers ovulation and progesterone?Im not sure but going from nothing to this is that good?? Can some one advise me?

It is definitely a good sign that your cycles are regulating, but it doesn't mean for sure that you are ovulating...it is possible to have a period without ovulation. If they are that regular though, you probably are ovulating I'd guess. To know for sure try measuring your BBT.

As for diet, with is PCOS girls, actually low fat I snot necessarily the best way to go as often low fat things are high in sugar. Better to go for low GI ie release their energy slowly, to avoid spikes in blood sugar, as often PCOS is linked to insulin resistance.

Could you tell me a little more about Low GI please? I guess im just looking for some hope. :flower:

Hi. I take metformin 500mg twice a day. I've been them for almost a year now. I've lost about 30lbs on the met :happydance: I will so though, not to be a debbie downer, but I also have PCOS and never had a regular cycle... but on metformin I have a regular 30-31 day cycle. Even though I am having a regular AF, I am not ovulating because of the PCOS, I guess. That *could* just be me, though. HSG & scans showed no issues, my body just 'chooses' not to ovulate, I guess?

Either way, it sounds like you are on the right path. My doctors have told me that losing weight is a great way to help get your PCOS under control & that it can help with ovulation. Good luck & congrats on your weight loss! Hope you get a BFP soon.
