Ever since i got my period when i was about 13 or 14 they have never been regular. I can go without one for months (even up to a year) or I will end up having it for about 6 months straight! Last year I had a d&c because of my heavy periods I had for 6 months straight with NO break at all. After that they put me on Provera to regulate my periods which helped..but still not luck conceiving. I just went back yesterday for what seems to be the 100th time for this crap and my doc said she wanted me to try Metformin. I'm not sure if she just suspects I have PCOS or if she is trying this to see how it all turns out. I told her i would give it a try and this morning i was sicker than hell but as the day goes on I feel alright just EXTREMELY tired. I just need some advice from people who have been in this same situation. I have been TTC for 3 years now and NO luck..I am pretty sure i was prego and miscarried back in august of 08..it was like NOTHING i ever experianced in my life. I just need to know i'm not alone. I am do depressed and upset that I can't just be normal like most of the people I know.

I am also taking prenatal pills to maybe kickstart this whole conceiving thing. I read so many stories about having metformin work and others say it dont. I'm so frustrated about all of this.

Hey hun = Metformin does have bad side effects for a few weeks until your body gets used to them.
I was TTC for four and a half years before I was diagnosed with PCOS in December 09 and was on Metformin for two weeks when I conceived.
I am surprised that your doctor hasn't sent you for an internal ultrasound??

they have done numerous ultrasounds and bloodwork but said everything was normal...I am not by any means obese...I maybe have an extra 10 or 15 pounds i could lose thats maybe why they didn't think much of the PCOS..They said i had follicles on my ovaries but doesn't everyone? I feel completely stupid when it comes to all of this..I never knew getting pregnant would be so hard and hurt so bad after trying for 3 years :( I was put on provera but that didn't do anything but regulate my periods and i didn't ovulate..Today is day 3 on the metformin and i must say i'm feeling slightly better. I am a bit tired but other than that its gone SO much better than yesterday :) Did you have a period first? or did you ovulate first? So many questions lol :)

also, do i need to eat differently? I have cut back on sodas and have been drinking water and tea, sometimes juice...i try to eat healthy like salads and such.

I'm in the same boat as you. Not really sure. I do knwo that excess carbs and sugars do trigger some of the nto so fun side effects. I'm going to start taking mine monday with a diet of more fruits and veggies and less soda and hopefully no takeout.

The reason I found out I had PCOS was because I missed two periods after having regular normal cycles throughout my life.
I went privately for a scan because I honestly thought I was pregnant and that the home pregnancy tests were wrong. After I was diagnosed I took Provera and came on within a week or so and then ovulated that cycle and fell pregnant. The Gynocologist said it was very unlikely that I had ever ovulated in previous cycles.

Is there anyway you can asked to be referred to a fertility clinic or perhaps go privately to find out why you are not ovulating? Sounds like to me that your doctor is unsure of how to treat you? If you have been for tests and you don't have cysts on your ovaries then you definitely don't have PCOS?
Oooh it must be so frustrating for you hun!

hey chic, take a look at cupcakes queens journal, she was on metamorfin and didnt need to be on it - she had insulin blood test to prove she was not insulin resistant i think !!! Dont understand why and whne they prescribe that much but maybe worth having a read just in case and asking perhaps why they have put you on it, was it to do with blood tests etc...... just some docs can be pants!! :)
