My Story... I've been regular all my life until June 2010. (on and off BCP for 10 years) My cycles got really long(40-55 days) then short(26-30days) and so on and so forth I had 7 cycles in 1 year:cry:

My DH and I got married in February 11' and immediately started our TTC journey. July, 2011 I was diagnosed with PCOS... main symptoms were irregular cycles, and a couple unwanted chin hairs. Ultra sound showed many cysts on my ovaries (none over 1cm) and the blood work showed my testosterone levels a little high and... 2 other hormones levels out of wack
Also in July I bled for 40 days straight with giant blood clots... I was referred to a gyno specialist and she has given me Metformin, I'm weaning my self on them through out a 6 week period starting at 250mg and at the end of 6 months I will be on 1500mg. Once on 1500mg for 2-3 consecutive months I'm to go back to the gyno. I guess my question is has anyone had luck with the metformin evening out your cycles, and have you ovulated on your own because of taking the metformin? Has anyone been in my position? I'm feeling really alone right now. I don't feel like I fit in anywhere on this forum... I haven't been trying for too long just 6-7 months so i don't really belong on LTTC... but then again, I'm not regular and am in an up hill battle to start ovulating on my own so i don't really fit in the TTC section...

Didnt want to R&R
Here is my story, it may not be any help but I can share what I have gone through.
I have been regular all my life. When we got married in sept 09 we went off BCP that month, 3 months NTNP. Then we started TTC. At about 18 months off BCP I finally got a follow up appointment and doc insisted DH get tested first. It took him about 3 months to come around to getting the test. His results were very promising (to our surprise). So Doc put me on Met in June. I just finished my 2nd cycle on it. obviously no success. See I have not been diagnosed with anything, I am currently in the Unexplained Category. She said it could help, my follow up is sept 20th.

There is a thread called the Metformin club or something like that on here. Many of the women on there who posted months ago have their BFPs.
Hope you have some success on met

Hey. I have never had regular cycles and have never known to ovulate on my own other than when I got pregnant with my DS I have recently been put on metformin to make me ovulate and this month I actually got a peak on my clearblue fertility test :) I'm here to chat if you need it hunni xx

Hello there,

I have PCOS and I've been on metformin for over a year. I was diagnosed in 2010 and I'm currently taking 1700 mg a day. Before metformin my periods were from 90 to 120 days in between and since I started metformin they were about 45 days in between. I can say that metformin has regulated my cycles I'm not 28 days but I'm working on it. I have been tracking my BBT and I have recorded an ovulation for January all on my own and one in July. I did do two cycles of clomid but I didn't get pregnant (due to low count). It sounds like your dr wants to see if you are able to ovulate on metformin alone that's what mine did. There are forums for "Metformin" and "PCOS" and you will find a lot of information from others who are in the same boat as us. Good luck :dust:

Thank you so much for replying... I've just been feeling so alone on this journey (other than my fabulous DH) hearing your comments was what I needed today. I have looked at some of the forums and was intimidated a bit with how large they were and how many people were all ready a part of it. Today is my 28th birthday and I just always thought i would be a mom by now... I'm hoping that this Metformin does the trick, I'm considering buying a ovacue monitor or CBFM :) :dust: to all of you as well. Thanks again Ladies

I no exactly how u feel. I feel so alone sometimes. Like no one really understands I'm so glad I have found BnB just really wish I had found this site sooner xx also I have a CBFM and I would recommend it. I haven't fallen pregnant on it yet (on my 2WW) but it's so easy to use and really easy to read!! Much easier than other OPKs xx

I love BnB so much, I've learned more about my body and about babies that any class or teacher/Dr could have. The reviews on CBFM are really fabulous, the only reason I may go with the Ovacue, is because my cycles are long sometimes and those strips can get pricey, where as with the ovacue its a one time buy. hmmmm what to do. Ill probably end up getting CBFM, but i want to research the ovacue a bit more. Have you ever been on Clomid before?

Going on clomid in 3 months if I don't conceive on met. Sorry what's an ovacue? Xx

Ovacue is a saliva-based electronic fertility monitor, it seems pretty awesome.:flower: from what ive found about it. https://www.ovacue.com/

Do you basically spit on it then leave it to dry and it ferns when ur fertile? X

Hi chick,

I've been on metformin for 3 months and I ovulated last cycle for the first time. Before that I had crazy cycles all of a sudden - used to be clockwork then for the last 15 months, I was bleeding 3 weeks straight every single month and definitely not ovulating.

Metformin can help people to ovulate if they have an insulin issue. However, it can also help people without insulin issues indirectly - like in my case, I think what it did was enable me to lose weight because it cured my sweet craving - I've lost 20 pounds since I started taking them and I think that for me, thats what started me ovulating, not the metformin by itself but it sure helped.

You place the censor on your tongue for 5 seconds and it records your "info" You tube has lots of great videos on it if your interested in learning about it. :flower: We've had a bad couple months with huge Vet bills and with our trip to Vegas in 3 weeks... I'm gonna wait until October to buy either way:)

That sounds cool. I have one of the saliva ones and it tells me I'm fertile most if the time lol x

lol a saliva one? what brand is it? That would be so frustrating to get false positives all the time:wacko:

I wanted to ask... how do i go about getting a psychic reading?

You can find them on eBay :) there is a woman on there called psychic123 and one one of the forums she has gotthe most correct so far xx

I started on Metformin June 27th and I got my period 26 days after starting it. My next period came 32 days. Much better then 70+ days !!! I am hopeful .

I have always been regular, When I started on met I have been spotting for upto a week after AF shows. This is new to my cycle. Does anyone else get spotting after starting met? I have been on metformin since end of june.

I'm on CD29, but didnt start the Metformin until CD 13... so I'm really not sure what will happen for me. I'm just hoping its around the corner... did you guys all start it at CD 1?

Hello Feb4th - Here's my story ... My DH and I are somewhat LTTC ... we were kind of trying and then not trying again. We're dealing with PCOS & Low Sperm Count. I was put on Metformin in April. And DH just started getting healthy. Took a lot of vitamins (USANA) and exercised daily. He lost 25lbs.

August 15th, we found out we were pregnant!!!! We were over the moon. This means, I ovulated on my own in July, 3 months after taking metformin. And I did read that it usually takes 3 to 6 months for metformin to work.

Unfortunately, our little bean didn't make it past 7 weeks. Lost it just yesterday. We're excited to try again.

You're not alone. We're all on the same boat .... we all want that precious little baby. Big hugs!!! Yay for Metformin.

Feb4th- I wondered the same thing I started taking 500mg 2x a day on cd26.. My cycles range from 23-75 days I just hope takin it mis cycle didn't Mess eveything up.. I'm cd31 now and still no sign of af.. Usually 2 weeks before and up to af I get sore bbs but nothing so far!!!

Fingers crossed for all of you! Let's pray metformin works for us
