So, I am starting Metformin today and I would like to know if anyone else is on it or has taken it. Also, if you have been on it, what were the results?

My doc says that I am doing Metformin for 3 months. If no baby by then, then I am adding Clomid.

What about you guys?

I'd be interested to know other peoples experiences with metformin as well - as you know I'm the same as you Sarah - literally!

So Sarah... looks like it is you and me.

I started my Metformin last night and thank god I did not get nauseous but my guts turned to liquid which was just wonderful. :dohh: Oh well, I will take that over some of the effects.

They put me on metformin coz of my PCOS and weight gain....not for fertility as I wasn't TTC then.
But looking back, I was taking metformin for about 3 months before I got a BFP, but then sadly had a mc. I wasn't even TTC as i say.
Then when I was TTC around 9 months later I got a BFP again and had my DD, who is now 2 and a half.
Last year, we decided to TTC #2, and when I went to the docs, I really emphasized that I wanted to get preg quick as I was 33, so she gave me clomid. I got preggers 3 months after trying with clomid but again sadly had a mc.
Hoping I am preggers as we speak...(am 10 days late)....fingers crossed! I didn't use anything this time.

So with both metformin and clomid, thy have both been successful for me- but clomid more so...I didn't honestly know metformin helped with fertility just thought it helped with keeping PCOS symptoms as bay (ie more weight gain).

Hope this helps......

Hiya

I've been on Met for about 6 weeks. Oh my the nausea was awful to begin with but it tailed off pretty quickly as my body got used to the meds. In the first couple of weeks I found either milk or cream cheese would help. Now bear the stuff.

I was mainy put on it for weight issues and amazingly I have lost a pound this month and I'm ecstatic - it sounds like nothing, but it's the first time my weight has dropped in the last 10 months!

I'm almost at the end of my first met cycle and I actually o'd CD15 rather than my usual 17 or 18 (I take this to be a good sign) and now in my 2WW. My LP had always been 9 or under and I am currently 12dpo so again a great sign whether or not I get a BFP.

Good luck to you both!

I am just hoping to get fairly normal periods with Metformin so I can accurately track my periods. Right now I am waiting.

Congrats on the weight loss. Any loss is a wonderful thing, right?!

So far, the only side effect I had was diarrhea for the first couple of days but now I am fine. Moving from 500mg to 1000 on Friday.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you then!

Thanks so much. I think I am a weirdo but I am super excited to start taking two pills tomorrow. I feel like it is progress. LOL Am I weird?

Good for you! I don't think you're weird at all haha, you should be excited! :happydance: I hope it does wonders for you, I can only imagine how it must be like to have PCOS and trying for so long. I will be cheering for you

Thanks Samo! You're a doll! 2 pills going now and I got cramps the other day so who knows! Could Metformin be working?! LOL This Friday, I go to 3 pills a day and then (supposedly) I might regulate! WOOT!

i took metformin for 3 months i wasnt luckt enough for it to work, but nurse wants me to work on losing abit of weight before doing anything else, as i am borderline PCOS

2-1-08... SO far, the only noticeable change in me is that I feel super bitchy at times and have no patience. LOL Come on :witch:!

I original started taking Metformin to control my Weight
It plays nasty games with you! Be very careful when eating Lamb, Beef, and sausages! Avoid them if possible.

Seeing consultant in April to discuss clomid

:hugs:Hi, i started drinking my metformin on friday, with postoval, it is almost like BCP but it's not, it's a hormone that regulates your AF also the whole 28pills in 28days story.
My gyni said, drink postoval and metformin 850mg first thing in the morning, and then the other tab just before i go to bed 850mg metformin. Now as soon as i have had AF i will drink as normal these tabs, but from CD5-CD9 with the clomid in the evening.
So im on CD55 today so should get AF CD77 if meds work. Good luck girls:hugs::hugs:

PS; doc said metformin makes you like supper fertile:happydance::happydance:

Hi there,

Looks like we're all in the same boat..I'm starting to take metformin for PCOS today. Problem is my doctor didn't give me any information about building up the dose to avoid nasty side effects. Do you think this is definitely something I should look at doing? If so, anyone have any advice on how to do it?

It's so good to know that there are so many of us out there in this situation!

N

Hi hun. I think it's deffinately a good idea to gradually build up the dose, but you should ask the doc what to do best for you.
I started on 500mg once a day for a week, then twice a day for a week and then finally 850mg twice a day. Although I have had some side effects, they have been bareable and now seem to have subsided.
Good luck hun.

:hi: girls!
I am also on metformin aswell as clomid..... i have been on 850mg x2 a day, to min side effects i only took one tab a day and after bout 3days i had quite bad diarohea (sorry tmi and cant spell!!!) when i increased to 2x tabs the nausea was really bad and I couldnt eat any tea on a night got told by the nurse at the hospital thisi is normal and can last up to 4weeks so at the moment im back on 1 tablet a day but im going back up to 2 2moro....... nurses also said its best to start off on half your does cos it helps side effects........ sorry this is a bit long but hope it helps

Hey guys!!! Im new here!!! My name is Sanya and DH and I have been actively TTC since July/August. I have PCOS and My Dr. just put me on 1500mg of Met and 100mg of Clomid. I got my period within the first month of starting the met which I hope is a good thing!!! Now I am waiting to see if I will get a BFP this month!!! *Fingers Crossed*

Hey Mrs I am taking Metphormin 500 mg three times a day and have had a major increse in eating sweet sugary foods. Was chatting to a nurse frind of mine who said I should get diabetes tests onec every 6 months while on it to make sure I am not becoming diabetic, as it causes a lowering of your blood sugar level so you could become I cant remember if it hyper or hypo. Would be worth a check also have lost around seven pound on it but have started walking and eating a little better. Best of Luck
