I had mine yesterday :) It went really well I have my scan on the 22nd January 2014 which im really excited about. I was a bit upset as I mentioned to the midwife about having depression when I was 16 years old ( I told this to the midwife with my first DD and they didn’t say anything about it) but this midwife wants to refer me to a consultant appointment to discuss it? I was like EH? Seriously depression is a very very common illness and she made me feel like as if I am uncapable of looking after my baby and even put it under my ‘risk’ part of the pregnancy book. I felt like she was patronizing me but Im 24 married have been with my partner 9 years and cope just fine with my beautiful daughter!

We also discussed VBAC because I had a Csection with my daughter because she was breech, I want a water birth always did want one, and she was trying to tell me I cant have one…LOL that was until I told her that I would just have the baby in my home then.. now shes compromised that if all goes well I can labor in the pool :) xxx

Glad it all went well hun. I'm actually on antidepressants still (the lowest dose) and I have to see a specialist too so don't worry. It can make you feel like you're some nut job though when they explain it too you.. Lol

Great news that you can use the pool during labour! I wouldn't mind a water birth or even one of those rooms with all the squatting bars and bean bags :) anything other than laying in a hospital bed!! x

When I was pregnant with DD me and my DH had a whole form filled out because we had both suffered depression in the past (I had PND and husband had depression when he was 18). But I think they put it down as 'risk' because there is that risk of getting depression in pregnancy and PND. But I cant wait for my first midwife appointment I have got it Friday xx

Glad all went well but midwife says what?!
i have my scan on the 23rd at 9am

I had my first appointment on monday too and wasn't pleased with how it went, the MW was just so miserable and didn't smile once, not once!!

I'm in the same boat as you my LG was breech and last time they told me that a water birth was recommended for a VBAC because the water softens the scar and helps it stretch!! All I would have to be willing to do was get out more often for monitoring.
She was talking rubbish hun.

My MW qualified in 2010, so I wonder if she hadn't developed a very good bedside manner yet, I think she was going a bit OTT with refering you to the consultant for your depression, but you would have to see them and would still be classed as a high risk pregnancy because of the previous C-section anyway, so it shouldn't put you out any xx

Thanks for this I am actually going to use this in my 1:1 VBAC midwife appointment that I will have in June. I feel very strongly about Water Birth I use it as pain relief for everything the water. Unless my baby is in Danger then of course I will do whatever the midwife tells me but as far as I know there wasn’t anything wrong with Esmee she was just breech other than that there were no complications xx

This is exactly what happened with Tessa, text book pregnancy she just never turned!!

I am slightly concerned this time about going overdue and induction, because a chemical induction can increase the risk of uterine rupture, so when I spoke to the MW about it she said they would offer me a non-chemical start (if I go over) which would involve a catheter being inserted into the cervix and slowly filled with saline until you are approximately 4cms then the membranes are ruptured and hopefully the body should take over from there.

But that doesn't mean you can't get into the water once all that is done!!

I wanted a water/home birth with Tessa too and had paid my deposit for a home pool before we found out her position :dohh:

Sorry the midwife made you feel that well. I have my first appointment next week. I'm also on anti depressants as I got PND quite badly. It was only found at 7 months pp I think that's why it had got so bad.

I really think they will stop me having a home birth again.

Xx

I cant help you on the depression side as she said it was just fine as long as I was feeling okay. But re the water birth, my midwife said it was just fine (I too will be a VBAC), as they have technology to monitor in the water at RBH. I am not sure whether its the same at Basingstoke? Also I am under a consultant for my VBAC and not a midwife? A consultant in Newbury.

I had my booking appointment this morning. The notes have changed since my last pregnancy and they now have a 'risk' page. On the risk page I am at risk because 1) previous antenatal and postnatal depression 2) high BMI 3) previous caesarean 4) I attended the appointment alone. WTF?! The first 3 I can accept as risks but eh? My OH had to work and he works 25 miles away and doesn't drive so relies on public transport. I was a bit angry when I saw that.

Hi My_First xx I actually want to have this baby at the RBH, I'm from Reading, my family still live there, I work in the RBH and have for years and years.
I just think I will be way more comfortable there.
But my MW didn't ask and we got half way through the booking appointment before it came up and she huffed and puffed so much about then having to change the paperwork I said we'll make our decision later, stupid cow!!

But this is very encouraging to know, and makes me feel much more comfortable about my gut feeling to have the baby in Reading :thumbup:

I'd be looking at changing midwives. I take it you come under Hants? Can you not swap to Reading (or in my case im under Wokingham Midwives)?

I could do, but I am happy for the routine stuff to be done under Hampshire PCT, but the actual birth to be in the RBH.

I'm not sure how it'll work with the MW's after the birth either who would visit us, but I suppose that's their concerns not ours, lol!!!
