what the hell does it mean for my baby if the fundal height is 3cm behind, she says not to worry but i can help it, i keep remembering bout a friend of my mum was measuring behind and she lost her baby at 26 weeks, gah its all i can think about and i feel so sick and have a massive tention headache...

am i being silly, does the measurment really matter? im goin for a scan on thursday so they can measure him, could it be that he is just short?

not that i knew bout it last time but he was measuring behind at the last midwife appointment... i guess i see why se didnt tell me at that point as it may just have been before a growth spurt

he is kicking a feck load and more powerful each time so there isnt any reduced movement, if anything he is stronger, i mean he moves my belly a good inch or so, also the head is down so thats a good sign, but she had a bit of trouble finding the heart beat... awkward baby maybe?

gah i just cant relax...

Hi I've had a few growth scans as baby at 32 weeks was under the bottom 10th centile line. The fundal height measures can be inaccurate, and even that scans can be 20% out either way. If baby is moving well that is important. I read up on it and decided to spend as much time as possible laying in my left side, slowed down and rested when I could and ate more protein, Almonds are particularly good.

Your scan will give you a better idea of what is going on, but I've had excellent care since 32 weeks with scans every two weeks. Baby came back up,over 10th centile by 34 weeks and her growth is tracking fine now. She is just a small baby though. I was 4lb 6oz born at 38 weeks and my binder 5lb 11 at term so I think we do wee babies in my family!

Good luck, I'm sure everything will be ok xxxx

Fundal measurements can vary from measurer to measurer and day to day depending on perspective and how/where the baby is lying. Try not to stress out and good luck with your scan!

ok thanks for the replys, im feelin a little better now... just cant helpbut worry a bit...

Worrying is totally normal, I do it 24/7! Xx

I just had my LO yesterday. I was measuring 4cm behind at my last check, she came out 8lb exactly, so totally average :D.

Mine measured 2-3 cm behind throughout - at final midwife I was 40+4 weeks and measured 37. He was born at 8lb 4oz so not small it depends on where they sit and bump can change and how you carry.

Funnily enough I was smaller with DS than DD and smaller than other friends yet now he is 22lb at 6 months and bigger than anyone else it was just how I carried him.

If they were worried they would do a growth scan - if he was not measuring small at the 20 week scan it must just be how you carry him

Last time I measured 2 weeks behind and my little girl was just fine and was 7lb 10oz.
At the moment I am 2 weeks behind again, but on a scan at 32 the baby was actually bigger than average for its stage of gestation. It really only is a guide and can be quite subjective - I'm sure that all the I see midwives measure it very slightly differently too.

I was measuring 4cm under on Tuesday so I was sent for an emergent growth scan on the Wednesday. I drove all the way to the hospital and a different midwife measured me and said 'no you're fine' and that was it! I think it really depends where baby is on the day. Maybe to do with the time of day and if you have just eaten etc? Anyway I'm sure it's fine so try not to panic xxx

I measured small throughout...both fundal measurement and via scans.

The maternal fetal specialist also said my placenta was calcifying and that LO was an IUGR baby.

One of the main reason why they set an induction date.

My OB, LO's endocrinologist and pediatrician said she wasn't an IUGR baby though as I'm only 4'11 and barely 100lbs pre pregnancy.

She was measuring at the 15th percentile at birth, weighing 6 lbs 1oz. We left the hospital with her at 5lbs 7oz....

At her 10 week cheek up.... She is now 12lbs 10oz and at the 90th percentile!!

OMG!

I wouldn't worry!

had a scan on friday, all is well :) when they looked at his head he had his hand by it :) then we looked at his face and he was pouting cause he was annoyed with all the poking and prodding. then when they wanted to measure the umbilicle blood flow he started kicking the cord!!! i think i may have m hands full with this one hehehe only weeks to go and im so excited!!!!!!
