Does anyone elses baby not have very much eye contact with you? The doctor stated concern that he avoids eye contact and does not follow you with his eyes. I had noticed that he will glance at me, but won't stare at me like other babies do. He smiles a lot, at random objects, but never at me. It got me a little worried about Autism, but I know every baby develops at different rates.
Does anyone else have a 10 week old who does not make much eye contact?

I personally think its way too early to be concerned about that. Keep an eye on it but I wouldn't stress- at all. :)

I'm not an expect but I'd feel 10weeks is still quite young, I'm pretty sure my friends little boy who is 11days older than my lo didn't follow his mum, and she was alittle concerned because my lo did. She's not mentioned it since and he really looks at you now.

Try not to worry Becuase they usually don't test for autism until they are at the very earliest 2.5yrs, that's a really long time to worry. Have you tired little activities like shaking toys in front of time then when he's focused onthat move it slightly and see if he follows, mayb stuff with lights or music might encourage him to focus.

Try not to worry I still think he's very young and sight in the early days is only like 40%

I noted on your ticker that he has an adjusted age of just over a month... at a month they really can't see a lot- tracking of objects STARTS to delvelop at around 2 months ... and lack of tracking can have other causes.... i had freind who noticed that her baby wasn't tracking and it was due to cataracts that they didn't pick up at birth. Autism does not really make itself know until 1- keep an eye on it- but i wouldn't be panicing just yet.

is he able to follow you if he wants to? DS refused to look at anything or anyone at his 8 week check up and the child health nurse got me really worried. but i've since noticed that he will follow me out of the room, and look at me when he wants to, but if he doesn't want to (usually when he's tired) then he'll look anywhere but at me. i read somewhere that they will look away to prevent becomming overstimulated. he's starting to spend more time engaging and looking at people, but at 8 weeks we'd be lucky if we got more than a few quick looks a day.
i'm sure your LO is just fine and he's just stubborn like our's!

He is almost 10 weeks, but was 3.5 weeks early. My ticker is weird. It counts one month from calendar days (as in July 24th-august 24th, instead of per week (7 days). So It says he is younger than he is. These darn doctors getting me worried! I will keep an eye on it and try with a toy. He just always stares past me to the wall or the curtains (which are plain brown, nothing exciting). If I go into his field of view, he looks away from me like he is avoiding looking at me. I suppose he is just more into his environment then boring ol' mom. :)

Nothing to worry about at this stage! Autism impairments in babies generally aren't detectable until they are older. Often young children with autism were hitting all the milestones as babies, they smiled, had eye contact and were cooing away, and then they regress and lose those skills!

That's how to count months

Go by his adjusted age for most milestones. Try getting closer to him and seeing if he watches you then. They can only see for about 30cm in front of their face initially, and their eye sight isn't developed properly until around 9 months.

I could've written that post a few months ago! My LO was 2 weeks early, and happens to be a very stubborn and late developer.

He NEVER made eye contact with anyone until he started smiling which was around 9 weeks. At his 6 week checkup the GP asked if he had smiled yet and I said no and that I was worried...she said boys tend to be slower with social development! He's 21 weeks now, a VERY smiley baby but we're now waiting for his first giggle/laugh (which should've happened around 18 weeks). He is however excelling in physical development, always been strong with his head, will stand and hold his own weight for AGES and is sitting up quite confidently at 5 months.
Just a case of patience I reckon!
