Please help me

My nipples are so so sore. Im rubbing my milk in, im putting lansinoh after every time i express but they dont seem to be getting any better.

is it normal for them to not get better? is there a certain point that all of a sudden your nipples get stronger and no longer crack?

its affecting everything. its taking me nearly an hour to express the 4oz Leo needs for each feed which is making them even worse  im getting behind on his milk meaning im literally expressing for his next feed. i cant keep this up much longer

Does anyone have any miracle cures or old wifes tales etc... I will try anything :-(

x

I have a friend that has an awesome 'miracle' cure. I'll get her on FB and find out exactly what it is ;)
It does get easier though - promise xxxx

Oh, and Leo is just edible. Congratulations honey xxxx

thank you darling :hugs:

Hes just precious :-) makes it all worth it.

Just a thought but have you any of the symptoms of thrush? I've had thrush for nearly 8 weeks (just going now) and my nipples have been cracked this entire time (I also pump for lo). It's only now that I've finally cracked the thrush (if you pardon the pun:haha:) that the cracks in my nipples are finally healing. You might also be using the pump on too high a setting - I did this initially and it really hurt my nips and I'm sure contributed to their lack of healing.

x

i used to have the pump on full setting but can barely get it off the minimum now coz it hurts even on that.

how would i know if its thrush? and how is it treated? im at gps tomorrow for 6 week check so will speak to her.

I've just managed to get my cracked nipples to heal by using Jelonet. It's a sterile mesh impregnated with vaseline that you can buy from the chemist. Fold it over so it's double thickness and put over your sore nipples. Took about a week to heal, but got there. I found this better than Lansinoh as it stopped my nipples sticking to my breastpads.

I also found nipple shields gave my nipples more of a rest than expressing. I used them every feed for a week then stopped using them.

Keep going - you WILL get succeed!

:hugs: hun I wish I knew my nipples are still sore too and now begining to think it could be thrush as that can stop the healing process :(

I really hope it gets better for you soon your doing so well and I don't know how you can even express when they are so sore as I am avoiding my pumps at all cost and daren't even hand express incase that makes it worse.

Loving your new profile piccy btw how adorable!!!! x

Amazingly weve actually got some jelonet in the house. What a brilliant idea.

Just tried feeding him on tge breast wirh nipple shields and pretty much cried tge whole time  feel so low at the moment :-(

At docs 2moro babytots so gonna ask about thrush x

After six babies my nipples are like leather (attractive) so not currently suffering from this but with my first one fresh air was the only thing that helped. Also, I did get thrush a couple of times (that yeast just loves a moist breast pad!) and you can usually tell as the baby gets it in its mouth too. Also, you may have already tried this (and it's never worked for me) but how about hand expressing so your nipples get a bit of a break?

Good luck with it and sorry not to be much help.

Right, she got back to me and it's Extra Virgin Coconut Oil (the type you can cook with) apply liberally after each feed. There's no nasties in it & it should work pretty quickly ;)

good luck at the gp's sweetie xxxx

Do you use pads? Try ditching those, my soreness went away AS SOON AS I stooped using pads. I reckon plastic backed throw away ones are probably the worst.

Go top free as often as you can too. Fresh air will help them heal :)

Rubbing your milk in doesn't help if you cover them straight away, because it just gets absorbed by the pad or the bra. Apply and air dry is the way to go.

My mum and my sister recommended Kamillosan for sore nipples, I didn't use it but I DID buy it for a friend, on the basis that even if she bottle fed her baby, it could be used on nappy rash too. Boots sell it.

Coconut oil is also meant to be very good for sore nipples, and it doesn't taste as horrid as lansinoh. You can also use it for baby massage. I'd imagine you could get that at Boots too, or a health shop.

Friend of mine said cold raw cabbage leaves work great for sore nipples as well as engorgement, and when she ran out she put cold slices of cucumber on them and said it felt WONDERFUL! Whatever works, right????

Really hope you get some relief soon! One if the tricks in the thread is BOUND to work!

LANSINOH ointment! I swear to god its a miracle in a tube! its almost £10 a tube but it is such a relief! its 100% pure lanolin, so doesnt need to be removed before feeding, which in turn provides a comforting barrier between you and the suckling little one x

I had TERRIBLE bleeding blistering and cracked nipples with my first baby and this stuff helped me no end! so with georgia i use it as a preventative and thus far (touch wood) i havent had cracked nipples yet x

Have you ever tasted lansinoh? It's yukky!!

yep lol, I thought the texture was a bit yak but didnt think it tasted of much at all!
I tend to use it as soon as she finished feeding, then usually theres very little of it left on the nipple by the time she next feeds from that side!

i found the smell horrible lol. mostly be careful because it will stain! wish i knew that before. but it really does help. so does getting as much air as possible i also found that if showering if i used normal soap it made it sting so i used baby soap lol

Baby soap is a good idea. I'd not thought of that! I do use a Soap free kids shower wash which i guess is similar.
I think its uncanny how i said I had thus far had no problems, then at about 4am my little devil decides its high time she gave mummy a nice clamp down bite which pinched my nipple to the point its bruised! Well... that will teach me for thinking I wasnt gunna have sore nipples this time! lol Hope the OP is finding some relief from one of the suggestions

I use this... It works!! Make sure its organic and raw. U can get some from handmade naturals in the uk... I used this for thrush too during pregnancy... (sorry tmi) cleared it up without meds so im assumin it would wrk on breast thrush too as it has natural anti fungal properties...also safe for lo so no need to rinse before bfing xxx

Thank u all :flower:

Am currently trying the jelonet and at docs this afternoon so hopefully get treatment for thrush (I'm convinced I've got it. Looked up symptoms and all match).

Have ordered some nipple shells aswell to hopefully 'air out' my.nips more.

Will also be trying others! Thank u so much again x

Been at docs. She said it definitely looks like thrush :-( so I have cream and anti biotics.

Thank u again, hoping it gets cleared up now x

Awesome! I mean, crappy that you have thrush but great that you're on to it and now it WILL get better... Hang in there :hugs:
