OK so me and my boyfriend have finally decided to move in together, we've found a gorgeous private house that we love and now we're trying to apply for the housing benefit. Right now living on my own im getting IS, CTC and CB. My boyfriend works a Saturday job (7 hours a week) and goes to college and gets a bursary. Now i know if we were to move in together my IS would go down, but the Job centre say it will stop completely as my boyfriend is then meant to support me and our son on 40 pound a week plus his monthly bursary?? Which then means if my IS stops i can't apply for housing benefit? Surely this can't be right? Ive been round in circles all day with the job centre and citizens advice and everyone is telling me something different. If anyone knows anything then you would be a great help x

I believe its right that you wont get IS as a couple because he is in full time education, I am not sure if there is any exception considering you have a young baby, I dont think there is BUT I cant see you having enough to live on (ie the government minimum) if you dont receive some form of extra income help. However you should still get housing benefit because you would be on such a low income.
Sorry I cant be of any constructive help, obviously it would be beneficial to you and your LO to live with your partner and be a family unit and its important your OH gets his college course finished so he will be able to work later on in life so seems a bit unfair that you cant get some extra support right now.
When does he finnish college?

You can apply for housing benefit. I juist had a look on there online calculator at weather we would get any as in due in march and wont be working but my partner will. We wouldnt get much a week as my OH earns a resonable wage but we would get something so im sure you would as well. have you actually spoken to them? Or look up an online calculator. Just remember to put your area in when you search. type something like dundee housing benefit calculator and it will bring it up. type your info and see what it says.

My OH is at uni, but I've been told that I'm entitled to housing benefit. We had to send off a photocopied letter of how much my OH gets in uni loans (this counts as his income). I don't know how much yet though, we're not applying for it until we move in a few months. I cant wait to get back to work. Pain the arse it is. :( x

can your partner get an increase on his student bursary as he has dependants to provide for?

Just so you know if your partner is in full time education (studying 25hrs+ per week) he would not be taken into account on your council tax so would still be entitled to the SPD (single person discount) also I thought you had to be working 16hrs or more for IS to stop?

You can apply for Housing Benefit as students with dependants can.

You would lose your IS though. You will just need to provide proof of his wages, bursary and other grants etc...
