hey all :flower:

thought i would ask you guys as you have lots of experience :)
if im formula feeding am i best to use bibs or muslin cloths, i keep hearing so many different things from people without babies  so would like opinions from you guys that already have experienced it

Thanks!!

for me bibs all the way. I got the ones that you can pull on and off her without undoing them. I found these fab. Especially when your alone and have a wiggle baby.

Ive always used bibs! But saying that, more often than not I ended up using my t-shirt or what ever I was wearing as all my bibs were constantly in the wash :haha:

haha oh i can imagine thats the kind of thing i'd end up doing lol! :haha:

Muslin cloths every single time. I have never used a bib. When my baby is sick on my shoulder (she has reflux), a bib just isn't going to cut it. When her hair is covered in ick, a bib just isn't going to cut it. A bib is useful when weaning I guess, and for those little dribbles of milk, but I wouldn't use one over a muslin which has uses far and beyond mopping up sick.

Joe is formula fed and we always used bibs. Had loads of muslin squares but only used them in the hospital and when Joe was first born he used to bring up milk after each feed, when they came in helpful as they're bigger than bibs x

how many does every1 advise to have, whether thats bibs or muslin?
thanks for the answers so far :)

Muslins all the way here :-) Handy for everything, even as a makeshift blanket as I found out yesterday lol

I couldnt live without both! Tbh ive found the pull-on style bibs are the best too hth x

I have both, and would get both again. Really big and/or absorbant bibs were best in the early days (the Tommee Tippee milk bibs are good). I didn't get along with the waterproof backed ones till Adam was a fair bit older. For the first few months we always had a muslin on hand as well, ready to catch a big sick/mop up dribble.

I used both when LO was small. Bibs def for protecting LO clothes I bought about 20 bibs - it sounds excessive but I used a different bib for every feed due to LO being sick and muslin clothes I bought about 6 for mopping up what the bib didn't catch.

Now she is older I still use both. Bib to catch the food that misses her mouth and muslin cloth to wipe her hands and mouth.

Me too! BOTH! I have loads of the tommee tippee milk bibs they are just brilliant if (like Belle) you have a very dribbly baby while having a bottle! BUT I always have a muslin to hand aswell as she can then do a big dribble or sick.

I then have 'pretty' bibs for just catching little dribbles, look nicer than the TT ones!

But I also use muslins for putting under her while she is in the bouncer chair, as sometimes gets a leaky nappy so it saves getting the leakage directly on the bouncer. I use them in the moses basket for her to lie on, aswell as sheets as again it protects the sheets for any dribbles and easier to replace. I use them pegged or tucked onto the buggy as a sunshade, and also in the car to stop the sun coming into the side. They are just an all round versatile thing to have. (also wipe my own hands with them if eating something mucky!)

Muslins and bibs have taken over my house!!

I use both!

Bibs are good for protecting whatever LO is wearing, and muslin cloths are great for those projectile vomit moments :haha:

I use bibs and muslin cloths. And u can never have enough bibs! I have tons and tons of bibs (about 35 maybe more!) and still feel like i can do with more..

thanks to everyone!! i think i'll deffinately go with both as most of you seem to say thats the best thing to do. does it matter where i get them from, like if they're mothercare or mamas and papas do they absorb better than the lower priced ones from places like asda etc.
Thanks!

i say cloths! we bought burp cloths (which were towelling on one side, soft cotton on the other) and muslin cloths, and they are much easier than bibs. Milk seems to run over bibs, or go past the bib down his neck. The cloths just tuck under his chin, and i can dab away at him easily without covering us both in milk :)

He isn't ever sick though so i cant speak from a super-soaker point of view

eta - bibs for when they are sitting up though - much easier i imagine :D

I bought my muslins from Mothercare and was given some from Asda. I see no difference in them, really. One thing, though, I find they absorb a bit better if they are washed without fabric conditioner; also they get better with age, absorbancy wise. I couldn't do without muslins now, even though we don't need them for feeding any more, they are just so useful to have around.

TBH a bib is just a bib and they are just the same no matter where you get them. Don't spend loads of money on them though cause you will go through lots of them. I just buy the cheap ones from Asda as they work fine, the plastic backed ones are good as they don't soak through.

Just remember not to put them in the tumble dryer as i did this and they stuck to the back of the tumble dryer and i had hot and melted plastic all over the place :haha:

I use muslins and bibs when I have time to put one on lol! I love muslins though, so handy for everything.
I put one underneath Jake's head in the moses basket so if he's sick I can just whip it out! They're good to chuck on the changing mat too! Amazing little things lol. xxxx

i use both. i would sugest getting a handfull of bibs and muslin clothes. i loved muslins for in the night were i didnt want 2 faf with bibs when she fell asleep eating. and bibs r gr8 when u put brand new clothes on them and want them 2 stay clean for abit haha.

and i buy my bibs and muslins anywehere they have offers lol. they all do the same thing at the end of the day there just gonna get covered in milk and sick lol
