Muslin cloths or bibs?

i use both but i find bibs easier because you can button them onto the baby...muslin cloths are also good because they're a lot bigger than bibs

Muslin cloths every single time. I have never used a bib. When my baby is sick on my shoulder (she has reflux), a bib just isn't going to cut it. When her hair is covered in ick, a bib just isn't going to cut it. A bib is useful when weaning I guess, and for those little dribbles of milk, but I wouldn't use one over a muslin which has uses far and beyond mopping up sick.

Absolutely!
I've tried many different bibs, but none have come close to a muslin. Once a bib is wet that's that, you need a new one and I'm not washing a milliion bibs!!! Also, unless they have plastic on the back they soak right through, and they never fit the neck properly, so the milk just goes down under the chin and onto the clothes. Muslin cloth, folded into a triangle around the neck like a neckerchief, is brilliant. Use for burping cloth, to lay baby on, as a bib, folded in moses over the sheet for night time so I didn't have to change the sheet (he was often a bit sick in the night) and same for pram. Even now I'm using them! I hate bibs!

Of the bibs I did try, the Tommee Tippee ones were the best, but after one feed the milk dried hard around the neck so I found I needed to use another, and they're too expensive to buy enough to use 6 a day!!!

I have had both and found muslin is better, i still use bibs, but find so many uses with a muslin, loads easier.

I use both muslins and bibs... You'll probably need lots of whatever you choose to use!

Well we have both but prefer muslins over a bib. Muslins are just so versatile; we use them when feeding, to lay him on on his mat, under his head in the moses basket, over his car seat to block out the sun, to wipe up sick from me or anywhere else (a bib can't stretch to my leg!) and best of all, to mop mummies sweating face in this stupid UK heat :haha:

Yep, I'm a muslin fan, but get both since they're pretty cheap and decide for yourself ;)

I BF but do used expressed milk too, I would say Muslin cloths as bibs are not much use. When ever he throws up on himself or spits up you can bet it is once the bib is off. I do put a bib in the cup holder of the pushchair though because it is small enough to fit in there. Personally I have 3 bibs (I only really need 1 as I almost never use them) and about 7 Muslin cloths which don't get much use because I use terry's nappies as burp cloths (never used as nappies) because they are a really good size and thickness.

wow i didnt realise how many uses there are for the muslins, they seem really worth it so will definately invest in some and get a few bibs as well :)
Thanks everyone!!

I have both too. Initially I just used muslins but since he's started teething and dribbling I put him a bib on otherwise his tops get soaked. Muslins are great though, they're better for mopping up sick and I've used them as blankets too, Alfie likes to snuggle up to one to go to sleep.

Bibs for us..and you can never have too many! Lola has reflux and she's worn a bib constantly for the last 7 months! We have at least 50 of them and we still run out lol. Buy as many as you can they won't go to waste.

I think I have finally figured out what a muslin is, lol. That's not a word that is used in the states, but I do have something similar and I use them for EVERYTHING. Wiping his hands, face when he's eating. Cleaning up sick (he's a reflux baby so lots of that), burp cloths are never big enough... As something to lay on, etc. he wears bibs too though because those are useful for protecting his clothes. I have never been a big fan of the plastic backed ones though, they aren't as absorbent and the milk tends to just roll off, but they are great for solids!

I use bibs... when I remember. When I don't, I end up feeding the washing machine again...

i have both, but i prefer the bibs...the muslins (or burp clothes around here) mainly get used as a cover on the changing table or when i change her on the sofa or bed i put them under here there lol

I use both. When Evie was smaller, our muslins were a godsend! We used them ALL the time, along with bibs. Now she's less sicky, we just use them occasionally but I always make sure that I have at least one with me when we're out.

I Have both but find myself using the bibs more. Muslin squares dont stay in place there only really good if you baby is sicky while getting winded Although they come in handy for other things. I use mine to mop up spills lol! xx

Just wanted to add that Ethan snuggles up with a muslin too - he loves them and especially when teething, tries to shove loads in his mouth!!!
I'd use bibs more now he's teething, except whenever he has one on it gets scrunched up and goes in the mouth so it's pointless for us!

I've got hundreds of bibs but I hardly use them! I prefer the muslin cloths. I find them so much easier to use and I find they catch more if LO throws up!

I always use muslins - doubled over normally! I found Samuel didn't really like bibs and formula just leaked through them onto his clothes.

muslins while on milk, bibs for weaning and solids.

We use both, he wears a bib when feeding and we use a muslin to protect us against sick and also to wipe his mouth with!

both...he wears the bib a bit after the feed in case he's sick. the muslin i had over my shoulder to burp him.
