I was booked for induction because of hyperemesis causing me to be hospitalised quite often in the pregnancy for long periods of time and preterm labor at 31 weeks. I went in at 4pm sunday and had the first lot of prostin, followed by four more and absoloutly no contractions. They attempted to break my waters without gas and air and although id been calm up til then i found that really stressful and painful!! When they tried to break them again i actually refused as i told them i knew my body wasnt ready as i had no pains there would be no change. She eventually gave me so much gas and air i didnt really notice and broke my waters, i was delighted since i thought surely this would get things going! i was moved to labor ward at 2am after being put on the syntocin drip at 11pm which caused very strong and frequent contractions to come on within an hour. I was given the epidural because of the rate at which the contractions were coming but was only 2cm when examined and they were shocked i had managed to have my waters broken because i mustve only been one at that stage!! I had maximum levels of syntocin and prostin and eventually the contractions leveled off again.

At 5.30am i started being violently sick and couldnt stop shaking, I got dehydrated so much so fast as they had a special pump to make fluids go in faster but i was throwing it up faster than they could get it in. Which considering I was suffering from hyperemesis is really something the doctors should've considered. It started to stress out baby and his heart rate was up at 200 then started to plummet. His baseline was 180 and i overheard the 5 doctors and midwives in the room mention that 175 was considered arrest They started prepping me for an emergency section while deciding to do one last check, they found meconium in the waters and i was rushed to theatre. When we got there they set up everything assuming my epidural was still functioning, they didnt have time for OH to get in and then they did the first cut and i could feel it. It wasnt overly painful but it was sharp and they had to give general anaesthetic, i drifted off to the feeling of them going ahead with it for babies said and the aneasthesioligist going "no stop shes not under yet!!" and OH wasnt allowed in.

When i woke they said baby was in nicu but they brought me in the bed to see him for ten minutes on the way back to the ward, he was perfect but covered in wires and could see him struggling to breathe in his oxegen bubble. He was 7lbs 2oz and born at 8.45 am after a 40 hour induction. I didnt get to see him again until the next day as i was still cathetirised from the general aneasthetic and recovering from the section and they wouldnt let me see him, i sent OH to sit with him. Noah was moved to an incubator at 1 day old where he stayed for the next 4 days, the first two he was tube fed and unresponsive with grunting and very labored breathing. The x rays showed fluid on his lungs from where he'd swallowed meconium but the doctor assured us it would clear. We were terrified but the neonatal nurses were so good, they let us change his nappy through the incubator and were really respectful to let us do as much as possible for him and to let us know when he had done something positive like cry or have a slight breathing improvement. They let us try feeding eventually and he breastfed really well, his breathing improved and he started to shout! They were really amazed by his progress as the doctor said he was with him all the first day and he was very sick and he lost over 10% of his birth weight down to 6.5lbs but they said hes such a good feeder and is doing great so they let him out of the incubator and tomorrow we get home! :happydance: He has to come back as an outpatient for check ups but as of now hes doing fantastic!
