Hey everyone,
Thanks for all the messages yesterday.
Well, I'm still in hospital. My gorgeous boy is asleep in his cot next to me, so I thought i'd have a go at this. I'm on my phone, so apologies for any mistakes!
Tuesday, 7.45am - waters break, in bed, at home. They gushed! There was no chance that it could've been anything else. I called my DH at work, who set off for home and then called the hospital, who told me to come straight in.
8.30am approx - arrive at hospital. Had a few contractions on the way, but nothing too bad and nothing regular. Felt like bad period pain. They hooked me up to a machine to monitor babys HB and my contractions.
I was told that baby was fine, and that I was nothaving proper contractions. It was just 'irritation' caused by my waters breaking. Doc was talking aboutgiving me a sterooid injection to help babys lungs, and keeping me in for 24hrs for monitoring. There was also talk of delaying labour for 1 or 2 weeks by giving me some sort of tablet under my tongue...
Anyhow, the tightenings started to get a lot worse, and I started to feel like I really needed a poo! I went to the toilet, but nothing would come out. I was also in absolute agony.
I went back to the triage room, where MW was waiting for me. I explained how I felt, and she palpated my tummy. She said it was still soft and she didn't think I was having contractions. I was feeling really bad now, and was crying and scared coz I thought something was wrong. The doc came in and was going to examine me because I was making so much fuss!
By this point, there was me,my DH, 2 MWs and 1 doc.
I got on the bed, took my pants off and saw panic on the faces of the MWs and doc. I he'd one of the MWs say 'hes breech.' I found out later that I was then fully dilated and they could already see babys toes coming out!
The next bit is a bit blurry!
I was put on a bed and wheeled straight to theatre. On the way, DH had to change into scrubs. There were lots of people in theatre - docs, MWs, paediatricians, students etc.
They put my feet in stirrups and told me to push down when I felt contractions.
I was shouting for my DH, who came in soon afterwards. He looked scared to death. As soon as I saw him, I started crying again.
Somebody got me some gas and air.it was amazing!
There were 2 really nice MWs encouraging me and holding my hands.
Baby needed turning coz he was facing the wrong way. I remember shouting 'that feels horrible!' and 'youre really hurting me!'
I had to have an episiotomy, but it wasn't that bad in the grand scheme of things.
My gorgeous baby boy was born at 11.15am, 3.5 hours after my waters breaking, and after being told that I wasn't having contractions.
His legs and feet were very bruised and swollen, as he was feet first. They look loads better today though.
He weighed approx 6lbs! God knows what he would've been had I gone full term...
I'm currently feeding him expressed breastmilk with a syringe as he is struggling to latch on.
After reading that back, it sounds like I'm making it up! I still can't believe that it happened, and that he's really here.
Also, I just wanted to add that at my last 2 MW appts, he had been head down, but not engaged!
Thanksfor reading, if you got that far!
Xx
