This is going to be long - so well done if you manage to read it! :haha:

My little girl made her way into the world 5 days late on the 5th of August 2012 weighing 8lb9oz and measuring 53cm :cloud9:

I woke up at 5am with pains and tightenings. I wasn't sure if 'this was it' because it was just in my lower back and belly, I had expected to feel it over my whole belly. I roughly timed them and they were coming every ten minutes. I tried to sleep but couldn't as the pain woke up me up each time. At 7am I woke up OH as they were now coming every 7 minutes.

I started using my TENS machine and bouncing on my ball. I did this until they seemed to be coming every 4 minutes, some with just a minute apart. OH told me I had to call labour ward, but I wanted to wait a bit longer.. I phoned though to keep him reassured thinking we'd go in and be sent home and of we went. We got there and the midwife timed contractions and said based on how I was acting she thought we could just go home, but if I really wanted she could do an examination to see how far I was but she wasn't too keen.. I asked to be examined, and her face fell as she said "you won't be going home, you're 7cm dilated"

She went and filled up the pool while OH went and got my bags to put in my room. I got in the pool and felt so much relief. I managed for a while just in water, and when I got out to use the toilet I realised just how good the water was at pain relief. It started getting intense so I opted for g&a. I began feeling the urge to push but just couldn't get into a position which I felt was 'comfy' in the pool so I came out.. That's when contractions began to be on top of each other! I hadn't screamed or made any noise up until this point, but oh boy did I shout when it came to pushing :haha: It felt so intense, pushing like I've never pushed before. The midwife said she could see the head coming, and man did I feel that ring of fire! Two pushes later and she was here :flower: An estimated 9 hours in established labour and 39 minutes pushing.

Everything was fine, I needed stitches, but we stayed in the delivery room for about 2 hours afterwards. I began feeling faint so they lowered the bed and I felt a bit better. We decided to try to go to my room in a wheelchair because I'd felt faint, so OH and the midwives helped me in and wheeled me there. We got there and I stood up, and then fainted and they had to catch me and get me on the bed but I was pouring with blood. I came around with OH saying my name and people rushing around with monitors and drips etc. Next thing I knew, OH was out the room and the theatre team were rushing in. I was getting bloods taken, canulas in, hooked up to drips.. It was all pretty scary and they didn't want OH in the room. They got me onto a trolley to take me to theatre and when I got there I was given a general anasethtic and was unconscious for about an hour and a half. I woke up to be told that I had a tear really high up which they hadn't been able to see when I was getting stitched up before and that was why I was bleeding. I had been given four pints of blood too as I had lost so much.

I was finally taken back to my room where I was attached to monitors and a drip all night. I had to get four bags of fluids as well, and a catheter. The next day everything seemed to be going back to normal so it was all removed.

I was let out three days later. OH was allowed to stay with me in my room at hospital because I was obviously knackered and sore, so that was a big help to me. I'm now on iron tablets and will be for the next 3-6 months :growlmad: But everything is worth it for my little angel :cloud9:

wow .. after a really good birth - such a shame you had to go through that.

Congratulations :flower:

Bless you sounds like a great birth with a very traumatic ending! Thank god you are ok! x

Well done hun! SOrry to hear it was a bit traumatic but hope your healing and doing well :flow: xx

Wow we have really similar stories! I too used the pool and gas n air.. I couldnt get comfy in there but couldnt figure out getting out so ended up staying for delivery... I fainted immediately after getting out of pool and woke up to people shouting at me too.. Scary! and was loosing a lot of blood however they didnt kno where it was coming from so i had to go to theatre to find out! I had a tear that was hidden too! 3rd degree but only on the inside..only difference is i begged for oh to stay for the op and stuff but he had to leave at the night times after :(
if i had gotten out for the birth and not needed to stand up after to get out the pool i dont think i would have fainted as fast and our stories wud match!

Many congrats x
