My dog suffers slight anxiety and my OH stayed at work late today. I got a call a couple minutes after my shift was over from my mom saying she was at our apartment and my dad was looking at the washing machine cause were having issues with it and asked if I would be home soon and I said I was just waiting for my OH to come get me, should be home in like 10 minutes.

We live in a duplex, on the second story. So when we came home Annie was on the couch with her leg wrapped up and shaking so bad :( The neighbor had seen her jump out the window, which I don't even know why it would be open, from the babies room which has a bed up against the window right now. I don't know WHY she would jump out the window!!! She was hiding in a back corner of the backyard in the bushes and wouldnt let our neighbors near her so when my brother got home he carried her upstairs and thinks its only a sprain. Of course I started bawling my eyes out when I saw her like that!

We've given her a tylenol and are just watching it and will bring her to the vet tomorrow if it appears to be broken but I can squeeze it and move it without her seeming in pain so hopefully its okay. I've just given her some hot dog which she happily took but she won't eat.

Has anyone even HEARD of a dog jumping out the window?? Is she suicidal? Surely she KNEW that it was dangerous to do? I'm a wreck

Wow, I've never heard anything like this before. Give her loads of cuddles! x

No real advice hun as I don't know much about dogs just wanted to send you massive hugs :hugs: Maybe take her to the vet tomorrow anyway and explain what happened, they can check her over and maybe shed some light on it? x

Id take her to the vet anyway, its pretty strange that she would jump out the window for no reason and if it has anything to do with her anxiety the vet may be able yo prescribe her meds to calm her so she doesnt feel that she has to do this again. You poor thing what a horrible thing to come home to :(

How awful!! Poor dog - she should definitely see a vet asap. It's nice that you tried to help her pain with Tylenol, but do remember that Tylenol (acetaminophen) can be toxic to dogs. I'm not sure of her size, or the dose you gave her - but it becomes toxic at 75-100mg/kg, and can cause fatal liver damage (but I'm sure she didn't get this much, so it's probably fine - just don't give any more!). I hope everything turns out ok for you! How stressful :(

Poor sweet baby!! I agree, please take her to a vet ASAP even if her leg doesn't seem to be broken, along with plenty of extra hugs and kisses!

I'd take her to an emergency vets..please..

I had a lab mix who once jumped out of a second story window. She didn't like to be left alone. We took her to the vet and she was ok just a bit sore after. She did puke right after which was the main reason we took her to the vet as it was pretty scary, apparently it was just from the stress and trauma from it all.

I'd contact the vet, immeditly, if its broke and you wait, you could end up requiring surgery and having a more expensive bill.. Also there could be other underling issues, that you havent noticed as you have said, your on a 2nd store floor, this is over 20 feet down, really. Your pet needs medical attention as soon as possible

oh hun I'm so sorry!!! Maybe she got spooked by something? Or could she have been laying on something close to the window and fell out by accident??
Maybe she got curious and jumped up to stand on the window sill and lost her balance? Could be a few things?
I would take her to the vet anyways just to get her checked. Your poor puppy:(

I would call the vet, our vet has emergency service, she needs to be seen right away! I hope she is okay, I have two/three dogs... a jack Russell ( my husband brought him into the relationship, now my dog :-) ) a lab/Akita mix, 2 months younger than my daughter and then my childhood dog who lives 6 hrs away with my mom, I wasn't allowed to take when I moved out 3 yrs ago.
I love my dogs like children, no way I would see them as just a animal

What kind is she and how old? I HD a friend who's dachsen would jump out of the ladies in the area were in their heat...but never a female

We called our vet, he does house visits and said he could be here in an hour but if he feels we need xrays done then well have to bring her to the office. He said on the phone he'll most likely be able to figure out if its a sprain by feeling around though.

My poor OH blames himself because he had to work late, normally he would be home by 4:30 and she jumped at about 5:30 so he feels it never would have happened if he got home in time but I told him he'll drive himself crazy thinking like that!

Shes just laying on the couch the poor thing. She tried to get up a little while ago but just sort of tumbled onto her side because she couldnt put weight onto it so now I'm sitting with her and making sure she doesn't try to get off the couch because I would hate for her to make it worse. She wouldn't eat dog food but we gave her a little steak and she seemed happy with that. She won't drink water but shes panting so I don't really know what more to do.

As for the tylenol we gave her one pill and shes probably a 30lb dog. Shes a german shepherd mix, were not sure what shes mixed with though.

Thanks for your support girls, I truly appreciate it.

I'm so glad you got in touch with the vet! Hopefully they have some insight - panting can be a sign of pain (or shock, if it's more like shallow breathing), so it's really good that the vet is seeing her...she could very well have a break, and if so the vet will know the very best course of action to make her as comfortable as possible as she goes through this. You did the right thing!

Edited, saw your response, good stuff! Make sure you do tell the vet you gave him tylenol though, in case it conflicts with any other medication he will prescribe. Keep us updated!

My neighbor's dog jumped out the second story window and landed on their grass lawn. They thought he was dead but put some menthol rub under his nose and he woke up instantly. He was fine, no broken bones or anything. They dog was a bit neurotic though. I hope your dog fully recovers!

That's crazy! I asked my DH and he said he thought most dogs had self preservation mode. Wonder what made her do that?!

I think you can give dogs aspirin but NOT Tylenol... And I would still take her to the vet, Acer fell off of my bed once as a puppy and he broke his growth plate but everyone thought it was just a sprain until I fought for an Xray =/

My retriever jumped out a second floor window once and he was fine, gave me the fright of my life though!

I doubt she wanted to kill herself or anything, my dog is also anxious, and will jump anywhere if she thinks ital get her to us, dogs aren't always clever, your dog probably thought it could jump down that far, probably was planning on getting to you, or perhaps just needed to go outside and panicked...dogs are a law unto themselves! Just get him/her checked out.
