First off I know it's not considered unusual for a BF baby not to poop for 10 days at a time but LO is now having bouts of extreme pain and straining which makes her inconsolable. She has always been a very easily settled and content little lady which is making this all the more distressing. Before now she was every 2-3 days between poops. She is passing quite a lot of extremely nasty smelling wind.

I called the HV yesterday morning after an awful night where she had me up 10 times and the longest single stretch of sleep was 3 hours. Previously she would do a 7-8 hour stretch to start with.:sleep:

HV said it sounded to her like the poo was imminent and would be here within 24 hours. I asked how long was too long to not go and she said she'd never met a BF baby who went that long, but failed to elaborate. 36 hours later still nothing except an unhappy baby and a bank holiday weekend!

I've tried massage, warm baths, elevating her bottom, lots of tummy time, leg cycling, even lots of bottom wiping and fresh air.....nothing is working!

Can anyone offer any more ideas, advice or reassurance?:cry:

My little one also frequently gos this long without pooping and gets distressed its horrible to hear them straining :-( last time he seemed a lot more comfortable after some cooled boiled water and freshly squeezed orange juice. ive also given calpol before cos in convinced his tummy is sore from it.

Its not nice :-( xxx

I think I would be more than worried if Alex hadn't pooped in that long and was that little :nope: I might be inclined to call NHS 24 and see what they say. HVs aren't doctors and can only do so much :flower: Can't hurt to call, right? :hugs:

You could also try fresh apple juice with water if you don't have any orange juice in. :flower:

My lo hadnt pooped for 3 days which is unlike her so I mentioned it to the doctor and we got some laxatives after she had a feel of summers tummy. Well when we got home she did a poo herself but yet again since then she hasnt been and she has smelly wind too. I havent given her the laxatives but just letting you know that the doctor will give you something to help if needed. I was wondering if maybe as babies get older they go less often because that seems to be the case? :flower:

Thanks for the advice folks but today, day 11 , she went of her own accord this morning! Thankfully I had changed her nappy at 6:30am else the leakage would have been much worse. :haha:

She had a great night 8pm-5am before a wake up and was cooing to herself for a couple of hours before we got up at 9am, so it looks like I've got my happy little lady back. :D

Aww good girl Paige for getting that yucky poo out! :hugs:

Glad to hear she's happy again :)

Thank you! I was so relieved to see it I didn't even mind that it covered the freshly changed bed linen (and was particularly tickled to find it all down DH's tummy as well).

Bethan went 11 days when she was about the same age without pooing - all normal for breastfed babies, but it does make them really upset! Not nice! Glad she's been!

Poo-plosion! :) glad she's feeling better! :) x
