My first rant. UPDATE NEED INFO ON IUDs

I got pregnant with an IUD in place, I've never had AF with any IUD I've had fitted, unfortunately I miscarried at about 15/16 weeks.

It really is very simple to remove an IUD, for me it was actually easier than fitting it due to my cervix going into spasms when it was fitted.

So your SIL could be telling the truth but she sounds like a complete bitch!

The ultrasounds to check for ectopic pregnancy would be correct, also that if a D&C was not appropriate, the pregnancy would need to be removed via the abdomen (assuming it was ectopic). I had a ruptured ectopic high in one of my fallopian tubes and required abdominal surgery to remove it. When I conceived this time, I needed two weeks of monitoring (from BFP to 6 weeks) hCG levels and ultrasound scans every few days from 5 weeks to confirm the location of the pregnancy was the uterus. I was told this was the standard practice for a suspected ectopic pregnancy.

If your SIL conceived with an IUD in place, an ectopic pregnancy would need to be ruled out as it is known to be an increased risk with an IUD. Also it is not uncommon for periods to stop entirely depending on the type of IUD. Some types cause heavier flow, others cause lighter or no flow at all.

Ok so I have a question for you ladies. Shes claiming she got pregnant with a IUD in. I heard those are the most reliable birth control bc your not missing a pill. so my question is either one was never in or she never took out her old one so she could say she still has one in. The wierd part is She never took a test it was my brother who said she was pregnant. but she hasnt had af since November and you never thought to mention you could be? I think she was trying to wait till it was too late incase my brother tried to make her end the pregnany. anybody know anything about the complications involved in getting preggo with a IUD in?

i had an IUD fitted, you have to get them done whilist you are on your AF, usually day 2-3 is reccomended. then you can have spotting very light for up to 6weeks after having one fitted, then after that NO PERIOD!

however, all my girlfriends and their friends have had them done and highly reccomend tem as you dont get a period, and ive never heard of woman getting their period whilist having the IUD in, apparently you can still get them, but i am yet to hear of someone who has.

the problem- i fell pregnant with my daughter on the IUD 4years ago, it conviently somehow got dislodged- dr reckons it was the rough sex we having oopsie  now a couple weeks after it dislodging and falling out- yes all you had to do was pull the string and it literally fell out thats how easy they are to remove, i found out i was around 8-9weeks pregnant, so it is possible.

my opinion is she is talking utter shit and just wants the attention and to trap your brother, sorry to be so blunt but i wouldnt belive a word that comes out of her mouth...

well thank you ladies for your help and your wisdom!!! I already figured she was lying I just wanted to know for sure plaus now i would like to casually bring up the period thing and poke holes in her story. I just wish she was normal bc there is nothing I would love more than to have the two cousins grow up as best friends. But I know shell try usi g this baby as a pawn and Im done with her games. But who knows maybe she really did get preggo with it in. Its just too convienent that its been the 5 years and shes knocked up.

It depends what kind of coil she had. There are 2, a non-hormonal copper coil and a hormonal coil called the Mirena. The mirena normally stops your period - it stopped mine completly for 7 years, the non-hormonal normally does not. Two of my friends have copper coils and still have regular cycles with AFs. Another friend now has a 6 year old son who was conceived whilst on the copper coil and because it couldnt be removed when they tried her son was born kicking and screaming with the copper coil being pushed out by his head!! So it can happen.

The mirena didn't stop my period just to let you know. I had it put in so that it would because I was sick of them lol and when I was on the implant they were all over the place at the end so I would worry that it had already stopped working and I might be pregnant. I thought no period no worry. But I still got a period. Not a heavy one but still I got one. That's when I went on to the pill. I decided if I was gonna have a period I wanted it to be regular. Well, I got pregnant on the 3rd cycle of the pill lol. Don't know if I trust hormonal contraception anymore lol

dammit. so I really have nothing to poke holes in her story. thanks for the info ladies!

My friend also has periods whilst using the coil, it's because she doesn't have one that releases hormones.

I had periods on the mirena coil which does produce hormones and I'm not the only person I know that has done. It only says it could stop your periods not that it definitely does

I appreciate that, but my friend is on one that doesn't use hormones at all :)

I know all I was saying was I was part of the club of people who have periods on the coil lol

That's why I said normally :winkwink: sucks it didn't stop them for you though. I loved having no periods. Lots of people think its weird or makes you like less of a woman! I hate them lol! I will definitely be getting it back after this baby  loved my mirena!

I think I'll go on the implant again after this baby. I had regular periods until 6 months before it expired which just meant it was running out of the hormone early and it just made me have spotting between periods.
