I called the hospital Wednesday (May 8th) evening 5:30PM to see if they had a bed ready for me. "Not yet" she said, "call back at 9 after shift change." So I did. They still didn't have a bed ready but said that they would call me when one opened up. We waited around anxiously until my husband couldn't keep his eyes open anymore, he went to bed around 1AM. There's no way I was going to be able to sleep so I watched TV until around 4AM and went and laid down in bed. About 15 minutes later my phone rang, it was the hospital! Oh shit - I thought - reality just sat in, we're actually going to have a baby! After 2+ years of TTC and 1 early loss...the time for us to become parents was here!! I couldn't stop shaking as I woke my husband up. We were out the door in less than 20 minutes! He drove like I was in labor all the way there lol We got there and registered and started getting settled into the delivery room, which ended up being our home for the next day and a half!
Around 8:30 my OB came in and checked my cervix and stripped my membranes. It wasn't bad! I thought it was going to hurt but I didn't even know she did it until it was done and I came back from the restroom and she asked if I saw any blood. At that time I was 'barely a fingertip' dilated. We were starting off my induction with Cervidil (which is 12 hours per dose) and that was inserted right around 9AM May 9th. 12 long, uneventful hours went by. We spent them talking, snacking and just spending time together. I had to spend most of my time on my left side because PJ's oxygen level and heartrate would drop pretty much immediately if I went on my right side. At 9PM she came into check me again as the dose of Cervidil was up. I was 'definitely 1 cm' after 12 hours! -ugh- So she gave me the option to try another round of Cervidil, or to try (I can't remember the name!) a pill that's 4 hours per dose. Needless to say I opted for the pill lol about 30 minutes after my first dose I started to get more noticeable contractions. Mine were 2 on top of each other and a few minutes break. I got 2 rounds of pain meds 4 hours apart. Which helped me sleep for a little bit, thank goodness! The contractions progressively got worse thruout the night. I made it to about 2:15AM until I asked for an epidural. She checked my cervix before the epi even tho she said there was no point, my contractions weren't strong enough to dilate me. I said "well I don't wanna feel the ones that are!" so we decided it was definitely epidural time. She said that since I was so small (pre pregnancy 88lbs, full term 114lbs) that I was pretty much feeling everything. I didn't want one but I waited until I was crying with every contraction and couldn't take it anymore. I had to get one round of IV fluids before they could do the epi. That was all done around 3AM. She decided that since I was getting an epidural anyways, might as well go ahead and start pitocin!
Just a few minutes after they inserted the cathater - I felt baby boy kick kinda strong then something hitting my leg. I felt down at my numb leg and it's wet, so I get my husband to come check the spot and he said it was a little bloody so went to get my nurse. My waters broke! Or should I say he broke them for me lol
About 3-4 hours later I was dilated to a 4. At that time I was starting to get a 'hot spot' where the epidural didn't take. So they did a bolis (i'm probably spelling that wrong) - where they took about 5cc out of my epi bag and injected it all at once. I ended up having to get 3 of them - roughly 2-4 hours apart because the spot kept loosing it's numbness.
Fast forward some hours for next cervix check - 8 CM! We're getting close.
About 2 hours later we're at a 10! But they leave me for about another hour so baby can move down a little more. At this time he was at a -1 or 0 . I can't remember.
One of my nurses notices that the balloon for my catheter is blocking baby's head so she asked if she could bring a new nurse in to feel it so she could learn. I had absolutely no problem with that - and the new nurse ended up being my favorite! (They were all amazing tho!) They ended up deflating it for the time being.

Time to start pushing!!!
I had no idea how to push at first with this being my first baby and all. They did a very good job explaining to me to push thru my bottom and curl my body around baby. I got the hang of it pretty quick and soon was pusing like I had done it before (words of my nurse). Which I'm glad I got the hang of it, considering I ended up pushing for almost 3 hours! They asked if I wanted the mirror to see the little bit of his head that we could see before I really started pushing, I always thought I'd never wanna see that lol but before I knew it, I answered "yes." My husband also saw the very little bit of his head (he always said he wasn't going to look down, but I caught him peeking thru most of the pushing process lol) There was my son! Just a little bit of his head, but nonetheless, it was my son...our son
After about 2 hours of pushing and moving from my back to my left side - remember baby doesn't like my right - they decided to have me go on my right side. Worse idea EVER! Almost immediately after I rolled over, I started getting an ungodly amount of pressure. Kinda like contraction pressure except about 10x worse and constant! They said he got stuck on a nerve. I was able to push regularly for about 20 minutes before the pain got unbearable. All I could do was scream out and cry. The nurses didn't know what to think at first, I went from conversating and joking around to screaming out in agony. So they kept moving me from left side to back to try to move him. We ended up with me on my hands and knees (how I did that with an epidural I'll never know! lol) and my face was buried in my pillows while I was screaming and crying and biting them. I looked over at my husband and he was rocking back and forth and looked like he was about to cry himself. I don't think he expected this, I didn't either! I begged for a c-section! I thought I asked like once or twice, my husband said I asked for one like 6 time! But thank goodness, my Midwife knew I was set on a vaginal delivery unless completely necessary and stuck to that for me. The next contraction they told me to push "I CAN'T" I screamed. So they told me just to breath thru it, I was breathing really irratically because of the pain. They ended up giving me another bolis and also a shot of fentanyl (narcotic pain reliever) in my epidural also. This was the trick! Within 10 minutes the pressure was gone and I was back to normal and pushing again. About 30 minutes later, at 4:54PM May 10th my son was born! At 7lbs 8 oz 20 in long. They put him on my chest and he just looked up at me with those beautiful eyes and grabbed my finger. He was so content. My life is now complete. All I could do was stare at him in amazement. That little baby came out of me after growing inside of me for 9+ months. They had to take him from me a few minutes later to make him cry. He didn't cry when he got his shots. My big boy. My life is now complete. All I could do was stare at him in amazement. That little baby came out of me after growing inside of me for 9+ months.
My husband about passed out when he saw my placenta sitting on the table while my MW was stitching me up (I got a 2nd degree tear, from him being back to back and coming out sideways) haha but that's a different story..
