thanks i am gonna speak to our school nurse tomorrow then i shall go and see the head and explain my situation,as far as im aware i cant start mat leave til 29weeks,
another thing, if i was to work up to 34 weeks ( just supposing as that was my first thought before bleed) and told them that in my form for mat leave, then decided i wanted to leave earlier than that ie 30weeks, can I just change it or would i have to give notice, i dont know what to do for the best

I work in a school too. I spoke to our Health and Safety person and we went through the Risk assessment together. Get that done first and see what can be suggested from the assessment - as they may decide to move you to another class anyway. My school are talking about getting me a higher/cushioned chair to use in the class (which probably means lots of bruises on my knees :haha:) and extra breaks to rest when/if necessary.

thanks are you in the uk? i dont want to be a pain or play the victim id rather just go on leave if things got that bad but i do expect to have some leniancy and for them to help me stay there comfortably

Yes I'm in the U.K (North west). My school have been really helpful and since the Risk Assessment, things have been put into place to help me - Even things like not doing the playground duty in the later stages (due to football), extra breaks if I need them, chair etc.

The school would rather keep you longer so therefore will do things to help you :winkwink:

really wow your school are really good, at the moment im doing lunch duty in the hall and have to squeeze in between the rows of chairs and tables, hoping no child moves their chair out on me! even the yr6 children say i shouldnt be in there and they are gonna bring it up in their school councillor meetings ........bless them

Usually if you want to bring your maternity leave forward you have to give them so much notice (i think where i work its 2 weeks) but if your off sick after 29 weeks they put you on maternity leave (i think thats how it works.)

It might be possible to get someone to cover you in the hall and you do the duty outside instead? Have your school done a risk assessment yet? As one should be done before 20 weeks (according to my H & S person) and reviewed monthly/half termly to ensure you are being supported.

Defo get a risk assessment done. It will hopefully bring up lots of issues.

Have you spoken with the Head Teacher........I assume they are like your manager? x

They cannot "force" you onto maternity leave from sick leave until 36 weeks and only then if your illness is pregnancy related.

OP - you really need to get the RA done - good luck :D
