Hi all.

So, we've decided to not really discuss our possible baby names with anyone, as to be honest I don't think people will particularly like them and I can't be doing with seeing their faces when we say what we are thinking of ha ha! But, I do want to share them with someone other than DH, and I am struggling to chose between a couple of girl names at the moment (and I don't mind you lot telling me what you think)!

We have a DD called Madeline Diane (Diane after my mum who has passed away) - so the names obviously need to go with that. Also, we are Welsh and would like a Welsh name this time.

So, for a boy we have:

Macsen James Francis - Macsen is pronounced as it's spelt and is Welsh for Maximus or Maximillan. I absolutely love it - it's not a name that is really heard of anywhere except Wales and even then, I think there were only 30 or so born last year in the UK. James is my DH and my brother's middle name and Francis is my DH's grandfathers name. We were trying to choose between them but we like both so I think we are going with them.

For a girl I am struggling to choose between:

Betsi Jayne
Betsi Charlotte
Meredith Jayne

I adore both Betsi and Meredith - and really cannot choose. I think they both go well with Madeline. The only thing that slightly puts me off Meredith is that poor girl Meredith Kercher who was murdered in Spain. This wouldn't normally be an issue but when we were thinking of Madeline a few people mentioned Madeline McCann - and so would it be weird to have Madeline and Meredith considering what happened to both of them??

Middle names wise - my first name is Jayne and middle name Charlotte - both these names were from my great grandmothers on each side, so there is a family connection that I would like to carry on.

Bit of an essay there sorry! So, all thoughts welcome... :flower:

UPDATE:

We have a third girls name to add to the list. While it's not Welsh, we both love it and so have an even harder choice now. More opinions welcome!

Marcella (possibly shortened to Marcie).

I'm unsure about the boy name think it's the spelling. It's not awful but would take a bit of getting used to. Just because it's so unusual.
I love both names. I think you should call your baby what you like, shouldn't let it put you off that the names may be associated with other things though I completely understand where you're coming from x

Out of the girls i like Betsi Jayne x

I prefer Meredith, to me Betsi seems like a nickname. Meredith is nice and classic and I think works much better for an adult.

I love your boy name!
As for girls names I prefer meredith. My dad always names his cars betsi and it reminds me of the car thing from the film cars. Sorry! 😓

I really like your boy name. I don't find it all that unusual actually. I mean it's similar to Max, which is pretty common... and I have seen babies named Maxim/Maksim.

I quite like it - just not overly keen on the spelling. I think I would prefer Maxsen!

I'm not a fan of either girl name, sorry. Charlotte Jayne would be quite lovely though!!

I think Macsen is cool, it sounds nice and it's unique without being weird. Plus if he for some reason wanted a "normal" name he could always just go by Max or Mac.

I am not fond of Betsi personally but I mean, it's nobody's business but yours. And Betsi could easily work as a cute vintage kind of name and would maybe be more unique than Meredith - but I do like Meredith.

Basically I think your choices are good and don't let people try to persuade you to change your name choices if you love them!!!

Yeah the spelling can look strange...that's us Welsh for you 😀! I'm glad some don't find it strange or too different, I was unsure as it's not really heard of outside of Wales. And I'm glad you like Charlotte Jayne, it's my name in reverse - but I think people would definitely think it strange if I chose that ha!

Thanks for opinions do far ladies - still no closer to choosing a girl name ha! X

I like the boys name 👍🏻, I also really like betsi, but prefer the spelling Betsy- spelt with an "i" it kind of looks like it's trying to be modernised and it's such a vintage cool name that you should stick with original. Betsy Jane is cute 💕. I do like Meredith, I knew a little girl called this and her parents used to call her Merri x

Yeah I see what you mean with Betsi and how it can look - but it is just the Welsh variant of it so it wouldn't look so different here. There are a few names that go the same way - Nansi for example. I'm still totally undecided between the two though...and there's another now to add to the list! Glad you like the boys name too - I just love it!

I like both girls names. My only issue with Meredith is what abbreviation would be used. Also, as a pp has said I prefer Betsy with a Y. It's a cool vintage name so I'd stick with the original spelling. Elizabeth was my first choice if DS2 was to be a girl and we would have abbreviated to Betty or Betsy. I also really liked Delilah!!! Boys names are proving much more difficult for us!!! X

Im not a fan of either girls name to be honest but if you love both have you considered Betsi Meredith Jane.... just a thought as if you had a boy he would have 3 names x

Marcie tops the other two girls names. Love Macsen too

It's a cool vintage name so I'd stick with the original spelling.

That is the original spelling in Wales!! Just because it's not English doesn't make it wrong!! Sorry, pet peeve, I get it with ds's mn all the time!!

Love Macsen James! I like Betsi but I'm just not a fan of Meredith at all!

My fave names atm are Branwen, Sioned, Gwenllian and Rhiannon.

I would go with Betsi Jayne of your picks, although I also like Sian, which is the Welsh for Jane! Might be a bit too popular for you though.

I like names that are unique so I love your boy name. I'm not really a fan of vintage names though, but Meredith seems to roll off the tongue better. :)

I like Meredith most of all. Rolls off the tongue well and goes with your DD's name great!
