My Sister has just misscarried

Feeling more sad now 2 1/2 weeks after my m/c my sister has one too and I need to rant about the EPU at our hospital.

She's had brown bleeding for over two weeks, they scanned her last wednesday, seen the hb and told her to come back in two weeks, which was fantastic news. Last night the blood turned red, no cramps just bleeding. She phoned the EPU this morning and they told her they won't see her until next wednesday (the original follow up scan from last week).

So my mum being my mum, booked her in for a private scan this afternoon. They were great with her and told her unfortunately the HB has stopped So when she got home she phoned the EPU and the first mw said "are you having the evacuation done privately, since you went for a private scan" (in a matter of fact manner), she was upset and hung up! Another MW called her back and apologised but this one said "why didn't you phone us back this morning asking for a scan" EH HELLO!!!!!!!! she was on the phone first thing and they told her to wait till next week. So now she's to go up tomorrow to be scanned again to confirm it, I mean she's been through enough trauma without having to repeat it all again tomorrow!

Sorry, just so angry hence the rant.

At my first miscarriage, i felt like they didn't care. They sent me home with red heavy bleeding at 6wks and said i was having implantation bleeding. Give me a break. I knew what was going on. Second time, when i called they made me wait three days before i got a scan. They were trying to say it can be normal. I told them 'i know what a miscarriage is like, and it's the same as before!' However, fact is, the way they see it, what's done is done and there,s nothing they can do to stop it. But at the time, prompt assistance would make us feel like we had support. I'm sorry you have ended up with the short straw one in your area. I hope you both have another BFP soon. X x x

I am really sorry MrsJD. Please pass on my sorrys to your sister also. The NHS can be erally horrible cant they. I was teh same, students dong vaginal ultrashounds all the way through my trauma, then to top it off, i had blood taken by a studnet who messed it up and ended up taking it from 3 places when it had just been confirmed i lost my babies. Then at the D+C they asked if a student could do a vaginal examination whilst i was under anasthetic! I said yes because everyone has to learn but i feel that we are just numbers when health care is concearned. like it is normal and we have no feelings when losing something that was once part of us.

Im sorry you've had such a horrible experience. All i can offer you is wat happened to me. I called the second i had spotting, I had known something wasnt right after i had a wonky scan but the (horrible) nurse wasnt bothered that she back dated me 2 weeks ( i have since been upheald on that its really strange by other md's and my gp, but i digress)

When i called epau they said a) they were full and couldnt see me until 4 days later b) if i had just started bleeding they wouldnt be able to tell whether i was mc or not as a scan would be inconclusive.

There are 2 schools of thought here...you could get a scan and have no heartbeat..you'd be pretty much sure it was over- however, they'd still re-scan you later on. Or, if you really are mc, there isnt much they can do. its doomed and they really have limited resources once its a fact, i.e. scanning etc

Dont think me harsh, im not..but in retrospect, if the pg is early on there really isnt much they can do once you display signs of mc, and being seen to right away wont do much..call me cynical, but having been through this twice, i realise there isnt anything anyone can do but give you a re-assurance scan.and even then there is no way for you knowing what the future holds, short of hoping and praying!

I know what you're saying and agree. Think i'm more upset that she needs to go through the trauma of being scanned again tomorrow, only if they done it this morning.
