My sister has picked the same boy name

Maybe you can use Issac for a middle name, that way it's not completely a waste! I would talk to her and let her know how much you like the name too, but to compromise. I don't think sharing a first name and a middle name is as terrible.

When my daughter was born I made sure to stray from her choices, and my OH and I didn't even settle on a name until the day we left the hospital. My sister blew a gasket because I used the same middle name as the 1st name on her list.

She was soooo mad that she then accused me of getting pregnant to steal her limelight even though we had discussed that we were both going to be trying around the same time....

Don't be silly, Lora, she saving them for her other non-exsistant children. She plans to have 4 kids. So she has 3 names of each gender that no one is allowed to use.

Oh dear, bless her! Both times I've been pregnant, first time two sisters were, this time just one and we'd never argue about names! We do have different tastes which helps but something's are just nut worth the hassle!

I'm sorry but that's ridiculous. I can understand if it's one name that's really special to her, but how many names does someone get to "dibs"? If she had a list of 30 names would you be saying the same thing? There's also no guarantee that she'll ever have another child of that gender to even USE the name!

Yes there are a thousand names to choose from but how many names do you really truly love? Most people only have a handful and they shouldn't be told not to use them because someone else is "saving" it for their hypothetical child.

Like I said, for the most part we have different tastes, but she had 6 full names picked out... That's 12 names total for first and middle. She even called dibs on my dad's/brother's/HUSBAND'S middle name (Scott). I was okay with her taking 6 names, but I was taken aback when she got mad that I "stole" her middle name. When I chose my child's middle name, I did not have my sister's massive list of no-no names in front of me.

And, actually she told me her names over a year before she even got married. That's a long time to hope none of your family members/random relatives/friends uses any of the names you chose.

That's why I'm so pleased that everyone gave the OP such good advice and wished her luck and a reasonable sister. I think it's okay for cousins to have similar names or the same middle name like many of the people who commented.... My sister won't even share a middle name, let alone a first!

I agree that it's basically a non-issue considering it's a middle name.

She also has a ton of other names to choose from, if she loves the one you chose so much that she's mad you used it, then she must love all of the names on her list that much. So unless she has 6 girls... she'll be fine.

there might be a genuine reason she doesnt want you to use a name... the baby might not be 'hypothetical' but rather a real child shes lost - its a very private thing to go through, I didnt tell my family but it would be heartbreaking if someone used that name after I asked them not to because my childs not 'real' for them to see

She's my sister. She specifically told me she was having 4 kids and wanted 6 full names lined up for them: 3 girl and 3 boy. Anyone she told was given directions to not name their kids those names. She's never had a miscarriage, and I know this because she announces her pregnancies before the pee is dry. And I told anyone who asked, I totally respected her 6 names, but I didn't know until it was too late that the middle names she'd chosen were off limits as well... I've never heard of cousins not being able to have the same middle names, especially if it's after a family member... You know, seeing as we have ALL the same family members?!
