My strange feelings about formula...

... OKay.... Last night I gave Jasper formula last night for the first time, to see how he'd go, so I know that I can use formula with him sometime in the future - as in, if I've had a few drinks or if I want to leave him with OH for a few hours (previously I was expressing milk for these occasions, but I'm so exhausted I dont have the energy to express atm)

So, this is totally weird, yes, I panicked after I gave him too much and he was throwing up, but part of my anxiety was because it smelled different to my breast milk so it smelt wrong.

I'm a weird person with smells, I have really strong smell memory, like I'll see a friend and I'll know immediately if they've changed their brand of perfume/deoderant, or I'll smell something and it'll immediately trigger a vivid memory of the last/first time I smelt that...

... anyhoo, I'm really weird about how Jasper smells sometimes. Like if he'd been babysat, or someone else has cuddled him for a while, he starts to smell different, so as soon as I get him back (or they leave) I have to bath him, otherwise I'm on edge, like he's not right until he smells 'normal'.

I think I'm like a bird - you know how you shouldn't touch a baby bird, because if the baby smells different the mother will reject it.

ANYWAY... because formula smelt so different to me, I have a strong emotion about not wanting to use it... I will if I have to... but... I think I'd be tempted to bath him afterwards!!!!

I don't think it's weird. I think it is just your instincts coming out and relying on your senses.

I'd try the formula again to get familiar with the smell because if you do use it you have to but then you can also tell if the formula is bad. It can go bad...

Our formula you have to use within 1/2 hour mixing according.

Just do what makes you and LO comfortable!!

I think formula smells revolting anyway - it makes me dry retch if I smell it (when its made up). maybe try a different brand?

i am the same, i don't always spot if someone has changed their deodorant etc lol, but if Amelia smells weird after someone else has been holding her, then it makes me feel edgy like she needs to be cleaned back to normal.

Its weird having such a sensitive smell but also quite handy...lol

Have you tried Aptamil? (sp?) it is quite sweet and apparently closest to breastmilk....

we use aptamil and have found the smell ok, especially since i am very similar with maddi, and yep i bathe if she's been round others when i don't like the smell and wash everything and change bag etc, so i don't think its strange honey x
