Ok, let me start this out with that I don't love any of the names BUT I do like them, they're pretty names.
For a long time I have been set on naming a baby girl Sophie (Now I DO love that name) and it's always been agreed that DH could pick the middle, which is fine, and he chose an old, obscure Italian name, Remilia. Again, that's not the issue.
The issue is that my grandfathers health is declining and I always wanted him to have a grandchild honor him but with our son we wanted him to have a name all his own, family names didn't even cross our minds even though James (His middle) is heavily used in both our families, we just liked it so it wasn't an issue either way on whether it was a family name or not.
My grandfathers first and middle names are Lyle Audra. We have already decided that if this baby is a boy he will be named Alistair Carlisle, with Carlisle being after my grandfather
It need to be noted that in our family, when you do use family names intentionally, you use variants instead of the actual name, just how its been for a long time, its a tradition of sorts and it avoids juniors quite nicely.
With that being said, since my grandfathers name is Lyle Audra, then Lyla and Audrey are obvious (and as far as I can find) the only choices. I cannot stand Lyla so its out. I do really like Audrey but this is where the issue comes in, I have a younger sister (who is 3) named Aubrey. Audrey and Aubrey are extremely similar and I'm worried about their names being confused, called the wrong name or just general confusion when someone doesn't speak clearly and they both come running in the future.
So for a girl do you think we should just stick with the original Sophie Remilia or do you think Audrey is fine to use despite the extreme similarity to my sister?
Can you think of other variants of Lyle and Audra for a girl? Also, just a side note, his surname (my maiden name) isn't one that variants can be made of so that's out as well.
