I have been a high school teacher for 10 years now.
I disagree that teachers make their minds up about kids before they have met them by just looking at the register - but, sometimes we may have a laugh at some names! Just like everyone else.
I also will say that being a teacher and coming across so many good and naughty kids has definitely influenced my choice of name for our baby. I certainly have been put off several names because of the kids I have come across in the past.
And the list they have come up with, I have to agree they are quite right based on my experience. Jack is there at no1 but there are so many Jacks that I know of plenty good ones and bad ones!
I am actually finding it quite difficult to decide on names because I am a teacher. These popular names are a no-no for me. For example, Lauren was/is a top name for girls - in a class last year I had 4 Laurens. And in a class this year I have 3 Emmas!!
I agree that a chavvy name>>>> a potentially naughty pupil.
Maybe some folk will learn from this article and think again about calling their child Chardonnay or Chantelle?
But, it really isnt the name that makes the person at the end of the day, its the parents!
