If you were wanting to name baby after someone does the name have to be spelt the same way ? I was wanting to name the baby after a family member but have a different spelling... If i change the spelling does that mean he wont be named after the person because its different ? Does that make sence ? lol :)

You can spell it however you want to - it's still that person that gave you the idea for the name, so your baby would still be named after them :D (and some people name daughters after male relatives etc. so obviously have to change the name slightly) x

I actually prefer the idea of spelling it differently as long as it is pronounced the same... that way it's still naming in honor of someone but with a more modern or individual twist! What is the name?

Personally I dont think it's really as poignant if you change the spelling. I'd only change the spelling myself if I really didnt like the original spelling.

I think it's quite nice to change the spelling slightly and personalise it to you. One of my friends is John and his dad is John. They wanted to carry on the tradition with his son so they called him Jon. Sounds the saem to everyone but slightly different.

I wouldnt worry about changing the spelling, I think its the meaning behind ir rather than how its spelt. And when your baby is older you can tell them what they are named after  id spell it how i wanted to and still know what it means and who was named after

xx

My brother called his daughter Evie after our Grandmother who was called Eva. I think he went for Evie to bring it a bit up to date but we all know its after Grandma. Also, my other brother chose a middle name for his daughter which was after my other Grandma's favourite place. I suppose what I'm saying is that if the sentiment is there then it doesn't matter how you spell it.
