LO is 7 months old and up to now, has only napped during the day while being held. He sleeps fine in his crib during the night and so we've decided to see if we can get him to nap in his crib during the day.

When being held during a nap, LO can sleep about 2 hours. It's the second day of crib napping and it seems he wakes up crying after 20 mins.

We are not at the point of letting him crying it out so we pick him up, settle him for 5 mins, and put him back into his crib...so he can freak out again after 20 mins.

What are we doing wrong?

Hi,

Im afraid I dont have any advice but are in a similar situation. My DD only slept on me (or moving in pram) until about 1.5 months ago. Now she will sleep in her cot but only for 30mins :( if we nap together in my bed she can go 1.5hours! However unlike you she wont go back for another 30mins after the 1st, she is then wide awake :(
I think its because she cant self settle herself after the 1st sleep cycle. We are starting CC tonight so fx that will help naps too. Im in envy of people whos babies sleep 1.5-2hrs in their cots!

We had this problem till ds was 9months old. To help cot napping I'd bf to sleep and then pat him. He'd stir after 10 minutes then 20. I found I could shush pat past these points. Then after a week of continuous patting I left my hand on his chest. After a week of this I used to leave the room. But go in after he's been asleep For 25mins and very gently stir him. I repeated this for a week and now fx he naps for an hour in the am. Still working on pm nap.

Lilmiss -I have heard about the 'wake to sleep' I considered trying it the other day and was all ready to go up at 25mins.....and she woke at 20mins!! little minx! I think I will try it tomorrow though!

The wake to sleep only added 5 mins at a time! I expected extra 30minutes straight away. Unfortunately for us it was a slooow process. Gl and keep us posted x
