Im probably jumping the gun here, but since im already 34 weeks pregnant and planning another HB, i really need to mentally prepare for the possibility of an induction. As i said, this could be premature, but i started getting signs of Obstetric Cholestasis (OC) over the last week. Im going to be talking to my MWs about this on Monday and im guessing they will run some bloodwork to see if that is what's causing all of my issues. However, i dont know if this is what i have or not but so far it seems like it could be a huge possibility.

Ive read numerous times were induction is typically given around 37-38 weeks as OC can be extremly dangerous to a baby. I am a pretty "crunchy" mom so the thought of induction is really scary to me. Ive had two unmedicated births (both water births. DS1 was in the hospital and he was back to back so it was a long hellish labor, not interventions though and then DS2 was a home water birth, no issues except mild shoulder dyscotia but no interventions otherwise). Obviously w planning a HB and induction would be the total opposite end of the spectrum. I know a lot of ppl say inductions arn't horrible but the ppl that i talk to about them i always got an epidural, etc. I like having active births. I firmly believe if my first was not an active birth and i were confined to a bed theres a good chance things would have ended vastly different due to his presentation and such. Im not against the epi when needed, but i just like the benefits of an active, unmedicated birth and it seems like that is very hard to do when facing an induction. as i know the pains are normally far more intense, come on top of one another, etc.

Obviously, if i do have this, an induction would be medically necessary. I would never get an induction otherwise (if it wernt for medical reasons). Can anyone share experiences with me about a "natural" labor with an induction. I know the pitocin and other drugs used would not be natural, but when i say natural i mean having an active birth and not being tied down bc of an IV line or how to get through pitocin without an epi as it seems quite the challenge. I would def approach an induction that if i need the epi it is there, but im hoping to avoid it if possible but im feeling discouraged that this may not happen bc the drip sounds really painful (should I actually have this condition and need induced.)

There's alot of different was to be induced without pitocin and I'm assuming that's what your taking about with people who needed epidural a and suchZ

If its nessisary to induce could always try and see if the doctor can try an induction using the gels or a membrane sweep or a bulb to help manually dilate you first so you can avoid the drip?

I was induced both times due to gestational diabetes. My 2nd baby they just broke my waters and she was born just over 2 hours later, all natural :flower:

I was induced with DS. I did have gas and air for some of it (from 7cm until I was pushing) and I'm pretty sure that's not an option in the US right? But was fine without it too. It was quick (about 6 hours) and I didn't feel like I needed an epidural at any point. It hurt more being on my back (I'd been standing for the first bit of my labour), mainly as he was back to back and it slowed things down but it was still fine, I had a great experience :)

I don't have personal experience, as I had a natural unmediated birth that was not induced, but I know someone who did. She and her husband were one of the other couples in our Bradley classes. She was a few days overdue with her first child and started having symptoms of pre-eclampsia. While in the hospital she received both magnesium and pitocin, but she did not get the epidural. I remember her telling us the contractions were quite strong and very close together. With the help of her husband and using the relaxation techniques we learned, she was able to get through them without the epi. She went on to deliver a healthy baby girl.
It is possible, and with your 2 previous natural births, I have a feeling you'll be able to do it too. I hope this helps!

I was medically induced with my first and went all natural (no pain meds/epidural). I had pitocin and they broke my water. I was actually scared of induction because I heard a ton of horror stories and being my first I had no clue what to expect. It went great! I believe because I had set myself up to the worst possible pain and prepared myself.

I had to be induced with pitocin with ds2. My waters had broken 36 hrs before (not sure if this is a factor) but I didn't go into labour on my own. Drip was started at 11.30, I'd had him at 2.51. Just 3 hrs later. It was quick, I went from feeling nothing to full blown contractions in half an hour. I had no pain relief as gas and air made me throw up and I refused everything else. I also refused to lie on the bed. After having a back to back birth with my first, 3 day labour whilst lying on the bed and a 3 rd degree tear I was adamant I was going to be active and upright. I sat on the edge corner of the bed and bounced on a ball whilst having all the monitors attached!

All in all it went a hell of a lot better than I thought, I gave birth on the back of the bed on all fours (ended up ripping the drip out my hand) and got barely a graze.
I believe you can still be as active as you can be, my midwife never told me to get on the bed or anything.
I hope I haven't rambled on and I've given you a little hope that induction can be more positive than we think!

I had to be induced with Pitocin because my membranes ruptured but labor wouldn't start, even 12-24 hours later. I tried really hard to avoid/delayed the epidural, I ended up getting it when I was about 5 cm (and then went from 5 to 10 in 2 hours!!). But I had horrible back labor so it had nothing to do with the epidural. Maybe I would have been ok with front labor, I don't know:shrug: Nevertheless, I was still pretty mobile even with the epi and had a wonderful birthing experience :)
