Hi All,

I'm hoping that someone more knowledgable than me can help as with all the internet research I have done I'm now very confused!

I have been TTC for 14 cycles now and I have discovered I have a short luteal phase. My longest has been 12 dpo with spotting starting at 8 dpo. I have read on a lot of sites that natural progesterone cream could help (I have been taking B6 complex for a year now), but I struggled to find any in the UK. I eventually ordered Biovea Progesterone Cream and started taking it at 8 dpo this cycle as a bit of an experiment (we were taking a break this month so intercourse wasn't well timed).

So my worry now is the ingredients. I have read somewhere that some creams use natural progesteron but the other ingredients could be harmful when TTC. Plus it says on the bottle "Do not use if you are pregnant.. or intend to become pregnant". I have also read that once pregnant stopping the cream can cause miscarriage.

So is this cream safe for me to use or should I stop using it (I've worked myself up so much that I haven't used it yet today)? So far I haven't started spotting and am 11 dpo (I think FF has O too early) so that's good but what if it's messing me up?

Have you spoken to your docs about the days of spotting before af and having a short lp?he may give you something rather then doing the cream yourself

Hi hayley1982,

No I haven't yet. We are waiting until the new year to go to the doc to get checked out, because it will be over a year of TTC by then and my DH really doesn't want to go, so the deal is if we don't officially TTC until the new year then he'll come to the docs with me (it all got a bit too much and emotional last cycle with the pressure we have put on ourselves).

So here is all I know about progesterone.

1. You cannot take TOO much progesterone. I use a prescription suppository after ovulation to give me an adequate luteal phase. Without it I start spotting 2 or 3 DPO.

2. The cream doesn't work, or at least not for all people. With my miscarriage in July I was using a tube of it every day and my prog was still only an 8. As soon as I started on the prescription prog it shot up and my spotting stopped. It was too late to save the pregnancy, but it was very clear the over the counter cream did absolutely nothing.

So, try the cream if you like, it won't hurt you, or your baby... but don't expect any great results.

Hi MommaHutch,

Thank you for your response, I feel a bit better now.

I'm very sorry to hear about your mc. Lots of :dust: to you!
