Hi everyone,

My DP and I are getting married in 2 weeks and dearly want to try for more children next year. We live in Queensland, Australia. I have a DD (2) from a pervious relationship and my DP is 5 years my junior.

A few months ago he had a medical and also a sperm test, to see if there would be any dramas trying to conceive... This is where it gets tricky though.. The doctor said his sperm count is fine/average but some of the sperm are dead (I believe he said or slow or something). My DD was in the midst of a 2 year old trantrum when he was speaking... Always the way!! The test was done on a very hot day and was sitting in the car for an hour or longer before taking them to the lab.. so this may have effected the results.. I guess???

The doctor then said we should however have no trouble in conceiving as the sperm count is normal.. but is this definately the case.

Any help would be greatly appreciated . Sorry I guess I'm just worried as I'm 31 and don't have that long left to have babies.. so to speak

Here are the results

Non-Motile - 70%
Motile - 30% (>39)
Non-Progressive 10%
Progressive - 20% (>31)
Live Spermatozoa - 30% (>57)

Volume - 1.5ml (>1.4)
Viscosity Normal
Sperm Concentration - 120 x10*6/ml (<14)
Non-Motile - 70%
Motile - 30% (>39)
Non-Progressive - 10%
Progressive - 20% (>31)
Live Spermatozoa - 30% (>57)
Normal Morphology - 55% (>3)

There is an L near several of these so I'm guessing its a low count??

For the last few weeks my partner has been lowering his caffine intake and taking menevit... if we haven't conceived within a few months, should he go for another test?

I also just have come off the pill so that may impact our chances too I'd imagine.. But any help understanding my partners results would be lovely

the numbers in () are the numbers they want to see. the < > are greater than or less than. To make a diagnosis the dr. has to do atleast 3 counts, months apart. my dh has lsc, we have done all this and it sucks. He should se a uroligist and he will do more test, and such. good luck. hope i could help.

if its to hot it can cause the sperm to die. Yes, the L means low, i've heard taking fertilade for men is pretty good, and suppose to improve sperm. You could have another sa done just to make sure all is fine, but i would guess the heat affected the results!

Intense heat can definitely alter sperm results, so I wouldn't worry TOO much yet. If you have the funds I would definitely have him go for another SA without the heat factor to get a more accurate result.

Well non-motile means there is no motility (movement) which for obvious reasons is not a good thing. But like I said, the heat may have caused that...so the sample could be inaccurate.

just as only 30% of the sperm was alive could have been affected by the heat!

Thanks for your help everyone... so I guess only time will tell if you are lucky enough to conceive :)
