Hi all,

I need all the help I can get. My husband and I don't know the gender of our baby yet, so we're trying to come up with both boy and girl names. We have a boy name in mind but we're having the hardest time coming up with girl names!

All the girl names I like, are either taken by people we know or my hubby doesn't like it. Please help me come up with ideas that are similar?

Names I like but can't/won't use:

Cecilia (my mother-in-law's name)
Cora (I know someone with this name)
Ellie (a friend of mine is going to use this name. I don't want to "steal" it)
Sophia/Sofia (both hubby and I know people with this name)
Emmeline (hubby doesn't like it)
Madelyn/Madeline (hubby doesn't like it)

So yea I'm having the hardest time!

We actually like the name Allie but it sounds like a nickname. I don't like the longer names that Allie is short for like Alison, Alexandra etc.

If anyone has any ideas please share!! Thanks

I had boys, but if I would have had a girl her name would have been
Asaria Alaze. Love that name

I think Allie is fine, although i do prefer the spelling Ellie. I also like Ella.

Girls names that I like:
Fern
Willow
Iris
Isla
Hannah
Quinn
Zoe
Hazel
Olive

Good luck!

Alessia and Alina are other names which could go by the nickname Allie.

Callie and Hallie are other similar sounding names that sounds less like nicknames, although I think Allie is OK on it's own as well.

What about Eilidh? (pronounced Ay-Lee)
It's Scottish Gaelic for Helen. It's quite similar to Allie and Ellie. Some people spell it Ailie.

From your list I like Quinn but can't use it because it would sound weird with our last name (in my opinion) and I already have a niece who's named Olive! Lol. I also like Hannah though but I'm not sure I'm in love with the name. I want to have the same feelings about a potential baby girl's name that I have with the boy name that I'm going to use, if it's a boy.

I kinda like the name Alina but I haven't brought it up to my husband yet. If I picked the name Alina, I'd probably have her nickname be Lina (Lee-Nuh) though.

Hubby doesn't like Callie, and I don't like Hallie because it sounds like "Halle Berry" lol.

I like Allie and Emily

I like Emily as well but I know someone with that name. I've played around with the idea of a different spelling such as Emilie or even Emilia though but I'm not sure.

In the past I liked the name Mia but somehow I have started to have different feelings on that name.. lol

Hi again,

I think we finally decided on a girl name: Emma Leigh. I kinda like that it flows together and can kinda sound like Emily lol.

But I want to hear other ideas for middle names for Emma? Does anyone have any?

I wouldn't use Emma Leigh myself, because it does sound like Emily.

Emma Nicole
Emma Renee
Emma Louise
Emma Marie

We're actually scratching Emma Leigh off the list now, not because it sounds like Emily, but because I randomly googled the name to see what would come up, and it's a porn stars name!!! :O

So now I'm thinking of either Emma Noelle or Emma Joelle. I randomly thought of Joelle because my husband's name is Joseph (he goes by Joe), and thought Joelle is a cute feminine form of his name. Emma Jo lol.
