Hi Ladies, me and my oh have been ttc for 3 years, i had bloods done about a year ago and came back all clear. As my oh was working alot we weren't trying properly at first so we never thought to get him tested as we thought we needed to try properly to see if we could conceive.

Anyway a few months ago we decided to see the gp as nothing was happening after we did start trying 2 years ago and he advised my oh that they would start by doing an sa and see if that comes back with a problem as to why we couldnt conceive.

2 weeks later we got the call, we just paniced like hell right up to the appointment with the gp, we didn't think the result was as bad as we first thought but we have no experience or knowledge about anything to do with fertility, the result came back with 50% motility and a count of 40 million and some of the sperm were not correctly formed, but as the gp told us he was not experienced in the work of fertility he could only give us limited information, he did say not to stop trying though as he felt these results doesn't mean it was totally impossible to conceive naturally but he said he would refer us to fertility specialists anyway to try and get assistance as we have now trying for so long with nothing.

We decided to look into it on the internet and see if we could get some information and help on how we could try and deal with it ourselves whilst we are waiting for our first appointment, my oh is now on multi vitamins and selenium to try and up the motility, we live in south ayrshire scotland so i am not sure how long it takes to receive your first appointment through here but hopefully it won't be too long.

My oh doesnt have hot baths where tight boxers or restrict the sperm in anyway so thats not an issue, i decided to start using fertility friend in aiding with temps and ovulation etc brought pre seed gel and we tried instead softcups last month for the first time, i try not to let it get to me but the 2ww is painful emotionally, but when i get period i just sigh and try to keep positive.

I am wondering if anyone has any help or advice or tell me the process of how it all starts i know it takes a long time but we feel if we are doing everything we can ourselves it may give us a better chance conceiving whether it be with assistance or without. We would like to do it ourselves if we can but anything would be appreciated success stories things you have done that has worked or may work would be great .

Many thanks to all that reply and baby :dust: to us all xXx

Shaz - i didn't want to read and run, I want to reply properly so will do that this evening.

Hey, just wanted to wish you luck since you are just down the coast from where I live!

Our first FS appt took about 7 weeks to come through, so not too long, That was in Paisley.

Have you tried maca to improve sperm? I've heard of a few men taking that. Think you would get it in Holland & Barrett or one of those kind of shops.

From what our Fertility Specialist told us, that count/motility doesn't sound that bad hun. Honestly, I've see posts where woman conceived with less. I would think it might make it more difficult to conceive naturally... and if you are done trying and trying, it might make the most sense for you to see the experts and get some help. Sometimes that is all it takes!!!!

We were dealing with lower count/motility/morphology (borderline #'s for all) after my hubbies 2 reversals... then found out I had higher FSH levels... but we still conceived our 2nd cycle of IUI (with Clomid)!!!! So it can certainly happen hun. We decided we didn't want to continue messing around trying naturally with such low odds since we are both 37yrs old. We were ready for that extra boost! lol.

Just consider all your options and do what feels right for you! Best of luck hun!

I agree with seoj. If you have been trying for abt 3 yrs, then it makes sense to see a FS. They may recommend IUI to begin with - which could be a good idea with the SA results you mentioned. Also they may suggest clomid for you.

Good luck.

Hi yeah the gp did say iui may be the best route to take, but i have been reading lots about home insemination which would be like iui but without the wash, not sure whether or not to give it a go but we are looking at trying that, probably 1 of the only main other things we havent tried, its so hard though depressing sometimes but we do try to keep positive, when af comes i have a really bad day but then i realise that next month is another month to try and go for it again thanks for your help sweetie will keep you informed and all other ladies that are kind enough to reply xXx

We will try anything but it is nice to know we have tried ourselves too before we had to rely on fertility to help us xXx

I could be wrong here- but I believe home insemination is basically just like DTD. It doesn't get the swimmers up as high as IUI... again, I'm no expert, but it might be worth asking one ;) Plus- with washed sperm, you get the best of the best where they need to be... which would give you better odds. And really, it's not that bad. They'll put you through some tests and monitor your progress and the clinic I went to was fabulous!!!!

Best of luck whatever you decide hun. FX'd :)
