Neighbours have moved and it appears they decided to leave their cat behind!

Neighbours moved out on Monday. About half an hour ago I heard a cat miowing outside my front door- opened the door and their cat was under my car and came running over to see me (he knows me as I looked after him when they were away etc) so I took him in and he has woofed down two tins of tuna fish (all I had that was suitable)

Have put some blankets in an open space under a counter in our utility room- nice and cosy there as it gets the heat from the tumble dryer.

Dog is fine with him as he sees him sitting on our fence etc and he loves cats :haha:

I am quite happy to keep him and look after him but do I have to inform anyone? I have rang their mobile numbers and they appear to have been cut off.

Don't understand why someone would just abandon their cat :growlmad: I get he might of ran away but surely they would of said something to me and to contact them if he turned up

Maybe they didn't left their cat maybe cat decided to stay! Mine did once we were moving out and on the last day we wanted to take him we put him to the car and a soon as we pull up to new place cat storm of the car and run back 3 miles to old house!we was going to get him about 10 times and every time was the same!my old neighbours offer to keep him if we don't mind and we were fine with that at new place cat appeard to be upset and didn't want to eat! We didn't have cat flap yet so a soon as someone opened the door cat stormed out between the legs and went back to old place!

This happened at my grandmothers bit for years, she developed a whole blimming fan club in her back garden and was feeding several strays :dohh:

Its quite common for cats to leg it at the last second when moving because of of all the comotion.
Maybe stick a notice on the fronr door and a couple of lampost saying hes crashing at yours if they are looking for him.
Chances are they will probably come looking for him

When we moved house when we were younger their cat refused to go with them and went missing. Once they were gone he hung around a bit and they came back for him. Hopefully they'll return to collect their cat soon :)

We rescued a cat who's neighbours deliberately left him behind - just took his collar off and left him outside for a week and he kept trying to get in their window! He was young and VERY boisterous so they probably thought they justified it :nope: We've still got him 4 years and 3 house moves later!

If it has ran off from them- they should of slipped something under my door just to mention it. I have spoken to a couple of other neighbors and they said they hadn't heard anything- tried the mobile numbers again and they have been cut off. Sent them an email this morning and if they don't reply to that by Monday I will just contact the RSPCA and see what they say.

Thanks girls.

I think if you are happy to keep him then that sounds like the best solution. We got our cat when my brother's lodger just up and moved and left the cat behind, he was only 9 months, I hate that anyone would do that to a family pet :(

I would try and find out tbh, aside from cats disappearing leading up to a move, they also often make their way back to their old home after moving. They could be missing their cat
