Hi girls! i'm new to the baby club. my son is 3 weeks and 2 days old. let me tell you about his background a little.

when he was born he got the group b strep from me cause we both had fevers when he was delivered. he also had some breathing problems. well they started him on antibiotics for it and he ended up getting a bad rash that turned out to be a supposed yeast infection (his pediatrician isn't sure that's what it was...damn hospital) anywho, they started him on meds for that too. so mind you my child isn't even a week old and on 3 diff meds! anywho, when he was 2 weeks old they released him from the hospital and gave us meds to give him at home. we did that everyday like we were supposed to. finally the rash seemed to go away. NOW, on monday he started getting the little bumps again and today they turned to big blisters and they started popping and oozing. so we made an appt and took him in to get looked at. come to find out, he has a staph infection! omg my poor baby. so now he's on another antibiotic and he's only 3 weeks old!! :(:( plus this antibiotic gives his a tummy ache, diarrhea and makes him throw up...damn side effects.

i guess i just need some reassurance because i feel like breaking down. can anything else go wrong with my poor baby?!

OH and i can't breastfeed till my dr makes sure i don't have the infection too since last night both times i pumped my breasts i pumped 3oz of almost pure blood. scared the living daylights outta me!

OMG your poor baby... He sounds like a real fighter, though. I hope you and him get better soon. :flower:

thank you! he really is a fighter. he's eating great, already up to 10lbs! and he's generally pretty happy despite everything that's happened. i think it affects me waaay more!

How stressful! We too were in hospital for IV antibiotics for strep B. That was bad enough for us but yu have been through so much more.

Hugs coming your way:hugs:

how long did you guys have to stay? we had to stay for a week for those antibiotics but then another week for the rash meds. :(
and thank you. i feel so bad that my poor baby has been through so much but still tries to be a happy baby.

Poor little man! I'm sorry I can't imagine how hard it must be on you. Hugs to you hun!

no advice.. just wanted to send big hugs your way :hugs:

that's all i wanted! just some hugs and some friendly words.
i feel so bad for him. i just want him to be happy again. :( he just sleeps and looks so sad now.

Hey!
My daughter was really sick when she was born. She was kept for 3 weeks in the hospital on STRONG medications through IV. These medications/antibiotics could cause things like audio toxicity which can cause deafness.

She is 6 months old now and is doing FINE. She is perfectly healthy and has no medical problems that we know of.

I know its really tough now but he will be ok :hugs: poor little guy. I'm here if you need to talk, add me if you'd like :)

A week. And a week of pure NHS hell.

The one thing we should remember is that they dont really know what is happening at this age and that they soon forget an injection, etc.:flower:

big hugs my lovely xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

ps Fynn was inn NICU for nearly three weeks at birth he was pumped full of god knows what and on ab's for most of that time. You will look back at this time and it will be such a very very small part of you life - I know atm it feels never ending but trust me it will be over you will be fine - and like Fynn (and Sam) your LO will be getting into everything very soon xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

awwww hun sorry to hear your little man isn't well. Hoping for a fast recovery for him. I had group strep too but they only found out right before i started pushing and had to hook me up for antibiotics fast

thanks girls! i know it'll be over and he'll never remember it but i still feel bad for him that he has to go through everything. but at least we get to treat it at home where we can give him lots of love and attention!! he's doing better already and didn't throw up after his meds this morning :)

want2beamummy- your little boys name is the same as mine! just spelled differently :)

Hi hun, I am so sorry you and your little one have been so much, I can totally relate to you.

My dd was also born very poorly and in serious trouble, she was lifeless with an Apgar of 0 and 3 men from the crash team rushed into theatre and spent 7 minutes fully resucitating her. I had chorioamnionitis/strep b and she was badly infected, it was a true miracle she survived. She too had the domestos of antibiotics for a week and after special care we went to transitional care where we got support with feeding and caring for her.

She was my 3rd baby and it was all so different from my boys, even bringing her home and feeding her. I was extremely emotional trying to come to terms with everything that had happened and I dwelt for ages on what could have happened. I also worried about the meds she had been given as I choose not to vax (another story).

On a positive note hun, give yourself time, allow yourself time to get over this (and your little one). We call my daughter "Smiler", she always beams, has developed it appears so far, without concern. Your little one will soon recover and thankfully he won't have the memory (like my daughter). You can remind him when he is older the trouble he caused you so early on.:winkwink: :hugs:

thank you velvetina! that helped me alot. when my son was born we both had fevers. so even though i was getting the antibiotics for the groub b he still caught a slight bit of it from our fevers. and he had pooed in my belly so they were scared he swallowed some but thankfully he didn't! he was 2 weeks early and really a miracle because after everything happened we had to get all the medical records for insurance and i read in it that my placenta had come back positive for the starts of an infection. i could have given my baby an infection had he went to term. i am soo thankful he decided to come early!!

he's really a pretty happy baby. he tries to smile and giggle. and he's only fussy if he's hungry or has a tummyache. i just feel bad that he keeps having things wrong with him cause of the darn rash he had when he was born. and i feel like it's my fault cause i spiked a fever and my placenta had the infection :(

I had strep B too but during the induction I was having antibiotics until I delivered my LO. He was lucky as he didn`t get strepB and we were dicarged from hospital in 24h.
It`s great you are at home and I wish you get better. Your LO is strong fighteer with a great appetite which means he is healthy and feels good!

the only reason my little man got it was cause we both spiked a fever. because i had 2 round of meds before i started pushing.

Have to make this quick before LO gets bored!!!

My LO also had to have the IV antibiotics for 7 days due to an unknown infection. He had the breathing problems too ... he even had a lung x-ray at around 5 days just to make sure it all looked good in there ... it did! And he got thrush on his bum due to the antibiotics so had to have cream for that, while we were still in the hospital!

(A friend of mine also spent 7 days in hospital with her LO due to the antibiotics thing - it is not nice for the babies but fairly common, they don't take risks with them when they're so new.)

My LO is now 15 weeks old and gets attention wherever he goes as he is sooooooo alert and smiley. We just came back from the local cafe where he was smiling and flirting with everyone!

The first weeks are tough enough even without medical problems but it is really scary when you add those into the mix. Plus sleep deprivation and hormones and it's hard not to get really really upset about it all.

But I promise you, your LO will be fine and it really will get better!

About pumping blood - google 'rusty pipe syndrome' just to be sure that's not what it was (though it doesn't sound like it). I had that and it makes your milk red but it is perfectly safe for baby. It's relatively uncommon so a lot of medical professionals don't know about it.

And of course lots of :hugs:!!!

thank you! my LO had to get an xray too and it showed he had a touch of pneumonia but it went away on its own! i'm thankful that the antibiotics and hospital stay is over. the antibiotic he's on now is extremely strong though because it's made to cover every kind of staph there is. and i'm afraid his poor little body is just too small to handle 3 doses of it a day. they are hoping to get a less strong one on Saturday when they find out which staph he has!
