Hi all i`m new to this forum and have read a few of the threads and everyone seems very helpful.

I am 32 years old (male) and my partner is 31 years old (female)

This is how far we have progressed and our background, My partner as 2 children already, We have been trying for our own child for 18 months now with no sucess,

I have had two semen analyasis tests and was given my second results over the phone today as same as first test result which came out "subfertile"

I have to wait for my doctor to come back of his holidays to book an appointment to see him to discuss what my options are,

Is there anyone out there that can give me any information to prepare me of what the next stages will be for us, ?

Dose it matter that my partner as had children before or wont we get help? any information will be great.

thank you

Darren

Hi and welcome!!

Sorry to hear about the results, but trust me there are lots of us here with male factor. I would try to find out exactly what the results were. They should give you count, morphology (how they are shaped) and motility (how they move). In our experience, gp's don't tend to know too much about it, we were referred to a urologist who was a bit more knowledgable.

There are lots of life style changes you can make which have been seen to increase sperm count. Loose boxers, not drinking or smoking or taking drugs. Some people also reckon vits help, I had dh on a strong multi vit, other girls have talked about a supplement called maca.

I don't know how your partner having children affects treatment, should you need it. I think it may vary from area to area. It might be worth ringing your local hopsital and asking. If you do end up having to have treatment there is every chance of success with male factor. It does, after all, only take one!!

Best of luck

picking the results up in the morning so then can post up the figures if its helpful to you to let me know what they mean.

thank you

Darren

That would help, as you can then see if the problem is in a particular area.

How far apart did you have the 2 tests? Sperm takes up to 3 months to develop and if you were ill (or as my husband found out, had a heavy drinking session!) that can knock the count down and it can take 12 weeks for that to get out of your system and the count return to normal.

I'm glad you've come on here, I hope we can help. My dh still has his head a little in the sand, and he is refusing to tell anyone there is a problem.

Hi Darren,
My partner and I have been TTC for the last 14 months, he had the snip afte having children with his ex (I dont have any children of my own). He has had a reversal which hasnt gone as well as we hoped, which means more than likely we will have to have ICSI.
Our doctor explained that we would not be entitled to help on the NHS due to the fact my partner has children already. I think it does depend on which area you live in but I think its the case for most. We are now just waiting to see a fertility specialist to go through our options.
How does your partner feel about having fertility treatment if needed? You may not even have to go down that route and just make a few lifestyle changes.

Hi Darren :hi:
Sorry to hear about the results, although it is more common than most people realize. MrsG has mentioned some great lifestyle changes. I'm not sure if IUI/IVF would be covered since your partner already has children, but that will most likely be the next step. Is she going through testing too?

Hey darren , we also have issues with
male fertility but after a year it's improving with diet changes and multi vits. My husband has been awesome throughout it all.

When you get your results post them up here and someone will be around to help out.

Best thing to do is research the changes you can make to your health and lifestyle, pop to boots and get some wellman tablets and :sex: every 2-3 days to keep your sperm healthy.

Unfortunately if it comes to fertility treatment you won't be eligible on the nhs which sucks but if ivf is the only answer there are lots of clinics who will give you free treatment if your other half is willing to donate half her eggs.

Good luck, you'll definitely get there in the end x

I am having my hubby take Maca root tablets. I have heard from someone on here (forgot who) whose husband saw his SA #'s double after taking Maca for 3 months!
