New IVF Protocol - Estrogen Priming? Anyone Know anything?

Hi all,

My Dr. just called me and they have reconsidered my IVF protocol. I'm now going to be on an estrogen priming protocol. I know next to nothing about this, and won't know more until I meet with the nurse next week.

I understand that they are trying to even out my follicles, and the estrogen is supposed to do that. (Last cycle I stimmed very quickly, and had to cancel since on day 3 of stims I had 4 lead follicles already mature).

For supression I'll be on a nasal spray???

Any information anyone has would be great. I tried googling it, but didn't come up with much.

I've never heard of it, but it sounds like a very positive step if it means that all of your follicles develop more evenly - better chance of a good number of mature eggs then.

Did you not take any suppressants the last time? My friend didn't take suppressants as they didn't expect her to respond too well to the stimming drugs, so they ended up boosting what her body does naturally with stimming drugs. If you're using a nasal spray, it'll be to make sure they control the amount of estrogen produced by your body so that you don't overstimulate. I'm not sure I would be able to nasally suppress mind you, I hate anything going up my nose. I'm using a SC injection every day to down regulate instead, which I definitely prefer.

I was suppressed last time. Took superfact (buserelin). But I was on a flare protocol. By day 4 of stims my E2 was at 5100 (yes, thats right!) and I had 4 mature follicles already, along with a crop of smaller follicles. My cycle was cancelled.

My first appointment with the RE after my cancelled cycle I did NOT feel good about. She wanted to put me on a more agressive protocol, with a higher amount of stimulating drugs.

It just didn't feel right at all. Especially since the Dr. who did my ultrasound said we needed to slow things down a bit. Finally all 4 doctors at my clinic met, discussed my case and this is what they've come up with.

I understand that the estrogen replaces the birth control pill - and the nasal spray is for supression. But that is about it. I'll be on the same dose of stim drugs this time around too.

Its very confusing. And yes, I'm really worried about the nasal spray...

what if I have a cold?

The cold thing is the reason why my clinic won't use nasal sprays - that and hayfever. They used to use nasal sprays for down regging but were getting too many ladies saying they were worried they hadn't taken it properly due to colds or hayfever, so they changed to an injection where it didn't make a difference. Could you not tell the clinic your concerns and do suprefact instead of the nasal spray?

Hiya,

My FS's protacol is always to put me on Oestrogen from CD2 - CD11.
His reasoning was that it makes your body more receptive to the Clomid or Gonal-F injections.

I'll ask the nurse my questions next week when I go to pick up my drugs. I am concerned about the nasal spray - but I'm sure they've dealt with it before.

I've been searching for estrogen priming on the internet, and not finding much, except that it works for some people. I had 4 lead follicles grow very quickly last time, and this is supposed to help all follicles grow at the same rate. Fingers crossed.

I'm such a planner, and just want to be as informed as possible before I meet with the nurse so I can ask all my questions. But excited to get this next cycle started! I'm 3 dpo, so my next cycle starts in a couple of weeks and I can start with the estrogen.... Retreiva and transfer sometime in May. Fingers crossed!!!!
