Sorry can anyone clarify our position we all these changed being made about making people go to work. I am now matildas registered carer receiving carers allowance on top of my income support with her receiving higher rate DLA but i dont understand are they going to make me go to work at some point xx
I mean I just cant see anyone employing me I have about 3/4 appointments a week. This is worrying me a bit as they keep talking about stoping money xx
Anyone understand the rules more than me xx

i seriously hope it isnt going to affect us mothers of disabled children

I hope it doesn't affect us too. How are we all gonna find such specialised child care?? Its scary :(

Hi there
Sorry to sound a bit dim, but do you mean the employment and support allowance (ESA) that is going to replace incapacity benefit? If you do, there is some useful advice on the DWP website. https://www.dwp.gov.uk/esa/faq-esa.asp
Otherwise try phoning your CAB to see if they know.
xx

I have beeb told today it should affect parents of serverly disabled children ie on higher rate as we are classed as carers and so that is our job but also it isnt coming in until 2011 but we will be asked to go back to work when the child turns 11. Im going to stop worrying about it cause at the moment there is no choice anyone who employ me anyway so if they want me to go back and can find the right child care then good luck to them cause nurseries wont accept children who asre catherised unless they are specialisted and a employer wouldnt give me a job anyway whilst I have 3/4 appointments a weeks.

I wish there was something for me too. It is so hard to find care for Makena. She can't have just anyone. She also has 3 appointments a week...and anything else is on top of that. I guess the gov't just doesn't get how difficult it is for us mom's.

I agree I think they just think we all just love sitting around at home xx Im mean thats also what they think we do sit around xx
Im not being funny but with all the appointments and Physio then doing the normal stuff of shopping, cleaning etc I dont get two minutes. You know I would love Matilda to be fine and be able to go to nursery so I could go back to work but just cant see it happening xx

Me neither Deb, with 6 lots of physio a day, 2 catheters, 4 different meds at different, multiple times a day, teaching Tegan to play etc etc etc and all the equipment it just isn't feasible to send her to nursery. They don't have time to do a quarter of the stuff we have to do in a day.

I know and normal nurseries wont accept children who need to be catheterised anyway cause they havent got the staff x

tom is the same - he has catheters 3 hourly!! no one will take him. It is alright being told that they arent allowed to refuse them - but you can tell by the tone of their voice that they don't want to. Would you leave your child with someone who didnt want to look after them???

i am lucky - i do have a childminder who will do all those things, but she was a friend of mine first and has had a child with special needs of her own. She is very familiar with meds and physio. But she can only look after him on days when she doesnt have to look after many other children. It isnt practical to look after a group of children - especially when cathetering!

I can't go back to work now, not until he is school. I do expect things to be easier when he is at school.

You never kmnow if they will be easier or not. As our babies get older and heavier, if they have trouble walking (most children with SB have some form of trouble walking) we have to provide their transport, they will still needs meds (more than now) still need catheterisation, might have learning difficulties.. Pah its a lot to think about.

I know my mums keeps telling me to stop thinking too far ahead xx
