Hello there ladies,
I am new to the forum and just turned 40 this month. My DH and I are trying to have our first child. Is there hope for me? I have been waiting all my life to have a child. It is my dream. I accept any advice from you ladies to help me make my dreams come true. Good Luck to you all!!!

I also wanted to mention I am going in for HSG next Tuesday. We have been trying for about a year now and he is 34. My doctor is great and blood work has looked normal, and my husband's sperm results are all normal. I do suffer from anxiety alot and stress, and have read that is a big part I am working on which is so hard. This is my second marriage, as my first one was 9 years and abusive and luckily got out when I did. I look forward to sharing my story with the others on this board and the support of other woman trying to have a child that are over 35, and in my case over 40.

Hello and welcome. I hope you find the support you need here. This is a great group of women. I'm having an HSG on Monday. Like you, all of my tests have come back normal and so have my husbands. I'm 35 and he's 41. I've actually been pregnant 3 times in the past year and a half, but have lost them all. So the last test they can think to do is the HSG. I hope you and I both get normal results.

My grandmother had her first child at 40 and second at 42. There is definitely hope for you! What are you doing to track your ovulation? For me, once I realized that I didn't ovulate on day 14, but somewhere between days 22-28, I got pregnant right away. We're here to help you attain your dream, just ask away!

Good luck to you! I'm also new on this forum and all the ladies are very helpful. Here's wishing you a BFP very soon. :)

Welcome, I'm 37 ttc my first, good luck with everything, I hope your HSG goes well! I look forward to chatting with you.

Hello & welcome! I'm fairly new here too, but there are lots of great ladies & lots of information! I'm 37 and TTC #1 too.

I want to thank all of you for your words for encouragement. I know this is the perfect forum for me!!! I have been feeling very down lately and reading the responses made me have hope. I would love to hear you individual stories. Feel free to email me so we can start correspondence.

My ovulation methods are using a basal body thermometer and an occasional ovulation test when I remember( I know that sounds weird). Good luck Heart Tree on your HSG. I will be thinking about you and keeping my fingers crossed.

One last thing I wanted to ask the other ladies here in the forum is about caffeine. I have a major addiction, as I drink about six cans of Coke Zero a day. Is this a serious thing to worry about?

Good, I'm glad to hear you are tracking ovulation. That is the best way to get pregnant. I'm a POAS (pee on a stick) addict and love the ovulation tests. I use them in conjunction with charting my temps. Good luck on your HSG as well. I hope we both get good results.

As for caffeine, I've read that it can increase the risk of miscarriage, but I don't know anything about it before you get pregnant or if it hinders your chances of conceiving. Maybe some other ladies can weigh in. You might want to start a new post about it if you haven't already. For me, I rarely drink it anyway. Only a little green tea. I've cut that out entirely. There must be tons of women in your boat though! I'm sure someone has some insight.

PS - Where in Florida do you live? My mother lives near Sarasota during the winter months (she's in Massachusetts during summer months.)

Hi Michele and welcome!!!

I am 41 and TTC for a year now. I had a MMC (missed miscarriage) discovered on Christmas Eve 2009 with D&C New Year's Eve 2009! Took a long time to get passed it, but I conceived that pregnancy on my own - no meds!

I have run 3 courses of Clomid and this month used injectibles. I had 4 good sized follies and had IUI with trigger last week. Now in the dreaded 2WW on progesterone, which actually causes the exact same symptoms of pregnancy - so it's a mind-teasing time!

As far as caffeine goes - my OB - who is a Infertility Specialist told me that caffeine, alcohol and tobacco are the 3 worst things you can do to your body when trying to conceive! He told me that if I had to have my caffeine that I had to limit it to 250ml (1 cup) per day at the most!

Hope this helps!!

Are you seeing a fertility specialist? Everything that I read stated that once you reach the age of 40 - there should be no waiting - just head straight to OB for help! It can't hurt!!!

Good Luck and keep us posted!!!

Wendy

Welcome, Michele! I'll be 37 on Tuesday (DH is 36) and we're TTC #1 (I've had two miscarriages).

I'm also a caffeine addict, though not quite to your extent! :) I drink 1 or 2 cans of coke zero a day. I've had two different OBs and an RE (reproductive endocrinologist/fertility specialist) tell me my level of caffeine intake is nothing to worry about. There is a proven link between caffeine and miscarriage at levels of 200 mg of caffeine per day. A 12oz can of coke zero has about 40 mg of caffeine in it, so 6 cans a day is a little over that limit.

Here's a link to a page on the March of Dimes website with lots of good info about caffeine and TTC/pregnancy: https://www.marchofdimes.com/professionals/14332_1148.asp

@heart tree - I live in South Florida, Palm Beach County, but Sarasota is very beautiful. Good luck on your HSG this upcoming week. Send me a private message to let me know how it goes and I will do the same with mine on Tuesday.

@Wewendyg and HappyAuntie - thanks for the additional support. I will read that link you sent me. I have about 6 cans of Coke Zero a day on average. I love that stuff. But at least I don't drink coffee or have other major sources of caffiene. Sorry to read about both of your miscarriages. I can't even imagine that feeling.

I just need to start controlling my stress levels and I think everything will be good. I am keeping my fingers crossed on Tuesday for my HSG. I will post with how my experience is with it.

Michele

I will definitely let you know how it goes on Monday. I plan to take a Vicodin for pain. My hysteroscopy was very painful and the procedure is similar. Some women don't feel much pain, but apparently I do. I'll keep you posted.

Welcome to you Michele!:hugs: Ditch the coke altogether, not only is it full of caffiene but also full of chemicals like artifical sweetners, they arnt good for you either. I gave everything up, no smoking, drinking or coffee etc. Ive had all the tests under the sun which came back normal and now Im 42 and so blessed to be 17 weeks pregnant after 4 miscarriages in 8 months. Good luck to you hun!:hugs:

Hello everyone

Well it turns out I had to schedule my HSG to next Friday as I got my period Monday night, right before the test. I will keep everyone posted on my progress.

Hearttree - how was your test?

Michele

Hi hon, I PM'd you about the test, but am happy to tell you here. It was not as painful as my hysteroscopy. I took 400mgs of ibuprofen and a Vicodin 40 minutes before the test which I think helped. It was very quick, about 10 minutes. I was able to go back to work afterwards. I had no pain or bleeding once the procedure was over. My tubes are clear, but my uterus shape isn't perfect. This may be the cause of my miscarriages. Of course my fertility specialist is on vacation until Friday so I have to wait to see what he thinks. Unfortunately, there isn't much they can do if the shape isn't good. Surgery doesn't yield good results and I really don't want to mess with my uterus. IVF may be an option or just keep trying until the embryo decides to implant in a part of my uterus that can sustain the pregnancy. Of course, this is info I got on Google. Just waiting to hear from the FS now.

Good luck next Friday!

Hi everyone,
Sorry I haven't been on in a while. I had to reschedule my HSG which I went for today. I have scarring of both tubes which is causing me not to get pregnant. The tubes were flushed and I hope it cleared the way. I have to wait and see if the blockage was cleared up and continue working on getting pregnant and waiting for that BFP!!!!!
I look forward to hearing from you guys. I will keep you posted.
