Hi Ladies! I've been over in TTC land for quite some time now, and now have just been told we have no other option but IVF, as my doctor has given me the highest clomid dose he legally can and still no ovulation.
We are going to be going for our initial consultation and what not this summer. Probably won't start treatment until sometime next year, depending on how things go at the clinic and how much money we can save up.
Would love to talk to anyone who is in a similar position or has been through it already and has any tips or anything.
We are considering going to Victoria for the treatments, so anyone with any info on VFC in Victoria British Columbia would be greatly appreciated as well.
Thanks ladies.
Hope things go well for all of you =)

Hi there,

We're on round 2 IVF at the moment - all fun and games! The one thing i would say is don't get too hung up on worrying about it. It really is fine.

My first one went absolutely text book - the long protocol with the pill; 16 eggs collected 4 to blastocyst stage, 5 day transfer with one - but it just didn't stick.

I'm now onto my second and should hopefully be having collection next week.

I'm injected buserelin to down reg and then gonal f to stimm, so 2 injections each day, you get to be an old hand at it and that takes away any worries you might have.

My collection was under full sedation and I had absolutely no pain afterwards. In fact throughout the whole process the only real pain is that appointments might have to move around depending on how things are growing. My first cycle we pushed the collection back 5 days from the initial schedule because the follicles weren't growing that quickly. I got myself into a right panic becasue of work (i didn't/haven't told anyone) and taking time off. But just go sick, my clinic even said they could provide me with a doctors note saying i had to have time off due to Ovarian cysts if I needed one!

I'm in the UK, but have family in Victoria BC - beautiful part of the world.

Good luck and keep as calm as you can!

Liz x

Forgot to say! My biggest tip is drink tons and tons of water when you are down regging and stimming - the first time I figured this after i had a few side effects, but this time I've had no side effects at all.
You do want to wee all the time, but it's much better than anything else!

Hi Born2B! welcome! I am currently reciving treatment at the VFC in Victoria! They are so great there, everyone is really nice, they take really good care of you and the Doctors are excellent (I have seen 2 there as one day my Dr was away and I saw a Locum Dr, he too was great). They are great at answering all your questions and very patient even though they are so busy. I would highly recommend this clinic. We are doing our first round of clomid with IUI at the moment and it went well, just nearing the end of the TWW so keeping FX. Some friends of mine have been to that clinic for IVFand had a similar exerience to me and all 3 of them are either pregnant or the 1st cycle resulted in a live birth (one single and one had twins). So you will be in good hands. Let me know if you have any questions. Take care :)

I'm in toronto and just had a follow up with my obgyn as we are not getting more than one follicle with clomid. Our dr told us that before we jump into ivf which can run you upwards of 10k that we should try using injectable drugs like Gonal F which work in a different way than clomid ad tamoxifen. You should ask about this for at least one or two cycles as the drugs are about 1000 a month so way cheaper than IVF!

Any questions don't hesitate to ask!

Hello and welcome! You will find lots of helpful people over here :flower:

I agree with Springy about asking about injectibles. There are a lot of other options between clomid and going for IVF. Is there a reason your doctor suggested going straight to IVF? Some people who don't respond to clomid really respond well to injections -- you never know. Injections are also less expensive, and overall less invasive than the whole IVF process, but it is up to you! Just adding my 2 cents...

Good luck with whatever your next step may be!

Our dr said that he doesn't jump into IVF lightly and explores all options before IVF.

I didn't respond well to clomid hence the jump to Gonal f in June or July.

The dr at vfc is very good and I am sure he will recommend what is right for the two of you based on your unique situation. Wait and see what he says hopefully there will be another option before ivf but if not like I said before you will be in great hands.

My doctor I have seen is a specialist but is not equipped to do more than offer your basic fertility meds. He did offer to send me to a fertility clinic nearby to have the injectables perscribed for about $3000 but said the % of pregnancies was so low that I decided I'd rather save the extra $2000 and do IVF (I say only extra $2000 because all fertility meds are covered by my health insurance).
I will go to the clinic and see what they say. My doctor seems pretty certain it'll be IVF as the fact that I have never ovulated, even on 150mg of Clomid for 10days is a big indicator apparently....most people at least ovulate once or twice. I have literally never ovulated in my entire life and i'm 25 years old.
We'll see what happens. So not worried about it. I am in God's hands and he has a plan. I'm just moving forward down whichever path presents itself.
In the meantime I'm trying to lose weight and I'm taking my soy isoflavones. Have a fellow PCOS sister on another area of this site who did just that and got her BFP. You really never know what could happen.

Thanks for all your opinions and advice and tips! I truly do appreciate it =)
