Hi

I am a newbie to B&B and wondered if I could please pick your brains about names for baby girls. We are expecting twins and need to come up with two girls names. I love Ava Rose and Tabitha Grace but my husband says that Tabitha sounds like a cat. He wants his Mum's name as a middle name for one of the twins but I really don't like it and I personally feel it is quite harsh and old fashioned. If we do it for one twin we have to do it for the other too! I would rather not say what it is in case someone else has chosen it and I would not want to offend. Names are very personal things.

I realise I sound a little mean saying that but I don't want my child(ren) to have a name I really dislike!

How did people agree on these things? We have time to decide but I can't see it happening. He likes Matilda which I do like, but I don't love it if you see what I mean. I also love Isabella or Isabelle.

Sorry for the ramble, I am not sure there is much point to this thread at all!

Ava and isabelle are lovely names!! i really like them xx

if i had twin girls i think i would call them
Sabrina and violet

I agree with you. You should not name your child something you don't like! Since there is still time I guess you can talk to your husband and decide on something both of you love.
Ava and Isabelle are great names! Congrats on your twins!

hmm naming one for me is hard enough so I wouldnt have a clue to how to name twins but I do think the names Ava and Isabella are beautiful :)
I definatly agree you shouldnt name them any names you do not like even if they are family names so Id put my foot down on that one and honestly Im not a fan of naming children after family members as if you do it for one side of the family ie husbands side then your side might be hurt and vice versa so I opt not to name mine after anyone kinda the reason Im not sure bout the middle name my DH wants to give my son as it is a family name but thats not the reason we picked it. its just a big compromise between the two of you so enjoy searching for those perfect names the both of you love :)

Eva and Isabella are both on my shortlist...

I definitely agree, don't go for a name or middle name that you really don't like.

my husband wants the middle name for a boy to be after his Dad, John. Now I know why he wants to and I think it's a lovely thought but I don't like the name very much. We have agreed that the baby (if it's a boy) will have 2 middle names, the 2nd of which will be John but that I get the final decision on the 1st middle name. Hubby has 2 middle names so it kinda fits and won't seem too odd.

I agree that you shouldnt have a name that you dont like. Ive named all of my childrens middle names after family members,(I liked all of their names though!). Im sure you'll come to a compromise by the time the little ones come along. xx

I love Ava Rose hun its such a girlie name and I think the names go really weel together. I have to agree with your OH about Tabitha though, when I first read it a cat came to mind... lol

Thanks ladies, you have been really helpful. Frankers I did suggest about two middle names (great minds!) but he was not keen. I am just feeling mean about it as it would mean a lot to him.

Another name I have always loved is Ophelia. I think it is so pretty (instead of Tabitha). My worry is that it 'could' be shortened to 'oaf', no child would want that. 'Fi' or 'Phi' would be just fine and a lovely way to shorten. I wouldn't shorten it but having a name myself that was not supposed to be shortened, I know others will regardless! Is this a bit too much? Honestly?

He also loves Matilda (Tilly) which I think is pretty. I do love Isabella though. I think we are pretty stuck on Ava Rose, it's the other one!

Thanks again, I really appreciate your help. We are keeping the sex secret from everyone we know which means I can't ask anyone IRL for any input at all. I probably wouldn't with names anyway as I don't want to hear any negative reactions from people I know. It's much less likely to happen once the babies are introduced as "X" etc.

i agree, if you don't like a name don't use it hon, as you will regret it x
i think ava rose is beautiful - ava was on my short list for my daughter :) you could have Ophelia as a middle name, i really like it, i'm very fond of all the shakespearean names tbh. what about Isabella Tilly or Matilda Isabella, or Isabella Matilda? Both are really nice, Isabella was also on my short list (my life was quite long ) we had terrible trouble naming our daughter x

I like Rosalee and Juliette for twin girls lol

Johanna Allison & Kylie Renee
Holly Paige & Evelyn Alexis
Hannah Danielle & Samantha Claire
Eden Grace & Hannah Faith
Natasha Denae & Kendall Nicole
Gabriella Faith & Isabella Grace
Madison Ella & Morgan Olivia

Maybe some of these combo's will help you spark some ideas lol Best of Luck

my daughter was going to be ava isobel until h2b asked if we could name her after his mum, so shes ava laura now...it snot a name im keen on but i knew it was important to him. his parents are italian and passing names on is a bigger deal in their culture. my mum didnt mind, shes sandra and has never liked her name so she doesnt expect me to do the same for her! i still love isobel though (any of the spellings are pretty), and i like izzy too, its definitely my top choice if we have another girl. i like princess bumps suggestions for your other little one.

good luck, its not easy this baby naming lark! X

Ava rose is a lovely combination

just to add though, as lauras a middle name, im not using it all the time, and it goes well with ava anyway (well i think so!) so it wasnt a massive deal in the end, and its definitely grown on me.... and i lOVE the name ava so we're both happy!

If it was me, I think I like Ava Rose and Amelia Jane.

My daughter is called Eleanor Grace, which I think is pretty but then I am going too! x x

Is there another version of OH's mum's name that you could use? Something related but nicer? Maybe a foreign (e.g. French?) version? And maybe a version of your mum's name for the other twin? I think it would help if you told us OH's mum's name, I'm sure no-one will take offence. After all, as you say, names are a very personal thing.

Maybe you could compromise by picking a name that starts with the same letter?

Today i spoke with a woman who had a little girl called Eloise. I thought it was so lovely.

Hi my lil boy is 19 months now the name i had for him was Ellie-rose but not sure of a name for the other one!! lol..
