hi girls

in need of some advice really, i have been badgering my OH to go to his GP for a sperm analysis but i think he is either too scared that if it came back as him having some fertility issues that i would leave him, or that hes too embarrassed to go thinking he will have to produce the sample there and then. Can anyone shed any light on what is involved (besides the obvious lol) please? Just so when I next mention it to him i can give him more information

thanks in advance :)

Hi Alicea,

My HO had to repeat the sperm test three times, and was extremely hard to get him to do the first one. My guess was he was afraid of the outcome, and eventually he confirmed that was the issue.
Now I'm not sure if the process is the same in another locations, but can tell you how it was for us.
My HO went to see the GP and explained we are TTC for a while with so success, and the GP gave him the small pot for the sperm.
After collecting the sperm (the obvious way ; in the confort of our home), he had two hours to deliver it to the laboratory on our local hospital, and whitin a week the results were send to the GP.
The sperm should be collected early in the morning, after a good night sleep and not having had sex on the previous 3/4 days.
If the results are low (count or mobility) he will then have to repeat the test, if they still low, will have to repeat the test a third time and if same again then will be refered to a urulogist, and go from there.

It honestly sounds worse than it really is... he can collect the sperm at home and even you can deliver it if he's embarassed of doing it. ;)
Just a quick visit to the GP and that's all!

Hope it helps and that all turns out great for you!

That's exactly how it worked for us as well, gp gives you a pot and a request form and times of when the fertility clinic open and then you deliver to the fertility clinic whenever he decides to do it. Don't have to commit to a day or time so no worry about when you go to the gp as to when he wants to produce.
Hope it gets sorted and you get good results

Hey Alicea

My oh has ed and is VERY sensitive on his fertility because of it,
He had a sperm analysis done and it showed all good so he's more relieved.

My oh had a hospital appointment booked and he needed to produce a sample in that time.

Things to remember the same HAS to be done and submitted within 1 hour as the swimmers start to slow down after that. They need to be kept near yo the body in the sample pot on route to the clinic (not in a pocket). The other key thing to remember is that your oh needs yo replenish his stock of swimmers a day or so but mo more them a week before doing the sample.

My oh was sooooo worried but he's glad he knows and for the results he had to call the result line at the docs so no embarrassing moments face to face.

I hope that helps xx
