Jack is only 3 weeks old but i think he is still switching day for night and we really need to get him out of that habit.

He feeds 3 hourly 7am,10am,1pm,4pm,7pm then down for bed in his cot. He is in his own room as we cant fit the cot in ours and he is too uncomfortable in the moses. We just have a blanket on him as he is too little for a sleeping bag just yet.

He has a dreamfeed at 10.30pm and will still be half asleep for this but by the end he always wakes up.

He still needs changing at this feed we have found too so that will wake him a bit more.

So by the time we get in bed at about 11pm he is awake. We find ourselves getting up evey 20mins or so to settle him, put in his dummy etc and then before we know it its 2am and he is hungry!

He has this feed then takes until about 3.30/4am to settle and thats the only sleep he really has at night from around 4am to 6.30am:dohh:

In the day he is mostly asleep but he is very difficult to wake, he will wake around 5.30pm to 7pm when he has his bottle as inbetween those times he has a bath. The rest of the day he sleeps loads!

I know he is still young but i want to get him out of this habit.

Does anyone have any advice/tips?

Where does he sleep during the day? We were having the same problem until one frustrated night I told OH, "he sleeps all day in that damn swing downstairs! Go get it!!" So we put him in the swing and he slept 4 hours. After a little investigating we found he has silent reflux and when laying flat he just wasnt comfortable.

So I am sure your LO doesnt have days and nights mixed as he is just too little for that, and it wont become a habit this early. I am thinking that there is something different between his daytime sleeping habits and nighttime habits. Noise level? light? temperature? Try to replicate that daytime sleep and see what the difference is. hth!

Could you try cutting the dream feed see if it makes a difference? You could also try offering bottles every 2 hours during the day so hes geting most of his milk in the day.

But at 3 weeks this is very typical behaviour

Have you tried changing his nappy before the dreamfeed, if it really needs changing? You mention he wakes anyway, so I'd probably do it before so you don't move him once he's fed & comfy.

Do you engage with him once he's awake? We used to keep it dark at night, we didn't talk to lo, we only whispered comfort if she got upset & we didn't make eye contact because she thought that meant playtime. We also raised the head of her moses basket so she was on a slight incline to help her feel better if she had any wind left. We used blocks under the legs of her basket at the top end, you could try books under the cot legs?

Hth :flower:

I was going to suggest not doing the dreamfeed as well and just see how long he goes and then when he does wake, do his nappy half way through so he gets sleepy again on the rest of the bottle x hth xxx

He sleeps really well in his bouncer but that does lay pretty much flat. We do change him at the dreamfeed cos i find he really does need changing but we keep the room dark and dont interact with him. We did the dreamfeed with Connah and it worked really well.

They may look identical but they are soooo different! lol

May just give him his feed at 7pm (usually he will go longer so maybe 8pm?) then not bother with the dreamfeed. Ill try it tonight and hopefully it may help :)thanks xx

My two are identical as well and also completely different with their sleeping and eating habits :haha: x
