Nipple crack?

I am a little freaked out - there is breastmilk coming out of a crack in the side of my nipple. It hurts a bit when he feeds but not a ton, but I feel like if he keeps going on that nipple, the crack could become larger. Is that possible?

It will b a bit painful but it wont get any bigger and shouldnt get any worse. Have u tried Lansinoh nipple cream? I have used this in between feeds if my nipples r cracked and it helps heal and prevents it getting any worse.

as long as u dont allow nipple to get 'dry' and use some kind of lubricant, it should heal nicely. The fact its not bleeding is a gd sign too x

On advice I would rub the breastmilk on my nipples after a feed, let them air dry, then put Lansinoh on them before a feed to prevent further cracking. Lansinoh is your best friend

I had terrible bleeding cracked nipples in early weeks feeding DD. I echo what as said above - breast milk rubbed on after feeds, and lots of lansinoh cream.

Also be very mindful that the latch is good every time you feed, as a lazy latch will prevent healing i.e. If baby's mouth is not open wide enough and he doesn't get the nipple in far enough. Take him off and relatch if necessary - much as that is annoying it will be worth it.

I'd recommend organic virgin coconut oil. It works a treat on cracks, also let air get to it as much as possible. Personally I avoid lansinoh like the plague, I had a reaction to it with my first and it made things ten times worse.

Lansinoh is only soothing, it does not help heal, only prevents from getting worse. You can also use neosporin but you have to completely clean off your nipples before a feed. I was told by my lactation specialist to quit using lansinoh and use something that will actually make a difference. My nipples were not healing for weeks and weeks.
