I just learned a new one! It's practically winter here in Canada and 've been sleeping with my electric blanket turned on med-high for the last few weeks. It's a habit of mine. I just learned that the EMF's (electro-magnetic field) are dangerous and can cause a MC!! :nope:
I had no idea!! :dohh:

I'll be turning it on before I go to bed and will turn it off as soon as I get in there from now one.

Just thought I'd share this with you. I know it sounds obvious but I honestly hadn't thought twice about it!

oh my god im in the UK and im froze so much im using one too!! Though i tend ot warm it up then turn it off before going to bed!!

both the heat and the frequency it emits can be dangerous I've read. I won't take any chances!

Thanks guys, I have been using mine too. Only on low just to warm up, hate getting into a cold bed! Think i will warm it up a bit then turn it off before i go to bed. Thanks x

yeah the overheating can be dangerous too. i noticed just with normal quilt if i wake up hot baby goes mad wiggling mw said hes probably aware of the temp change and doesnt like it so an electric blanket could really make that worse !!
mind you if yr in canada dont think yr normal quilt will overheat you !!!

What the heck omg, I have been sleeping a heating pad because my back is so sore. Ahhhhhhhh thank you for posting this, I am not going to use this again.

I think the concern is more about overheating than it is about the EMF's... as there are plenty of other things we use on a day to day basis that have EMF. But then again, I don't believe in all of that to begin with.

I have heard this before....a huge bummer. Any chance you can keep the house a few degrees warmer or pile on a few more blankets? But just think, before you know it you'll be having hot flashes and wishes for cold weather:dohh:

My DH and hormonal teenage stepson would definitely not go for that :-)
It's ok, I tried it last night where I turned the blanket on to warm up the bed and turned it off as I got in. I slept really well. It's all good! But I'm still going to miss using it when it gets REALLY cold.

This was a new one on me, but we got rid of our old elec blanket a few years ago, I use my hubby to warm my iccy feet lol.

Hey, I just posted this link in another thread, but I thought as this one is a more reacent therad, I'd be bettter off ptting it here.

I write for a blog about home heating and was asked about electric blanket use.
I spent a while searching the net, which is when I found this forum, there really didn't seem to be any reliable conistant information. In the end I went directly to the medical research I compared 4 of the most respected studies on the topic.

If you want to read a summary of what I found it's here.
Electric Blankets and Pregnancy

To summarise my suummary, it depends what stage of pregnancy your at, for the first 7 weeks as there is a small amount of evidance that suggests increased risk of misscarridge due to the electro magnetic feild, it's also not a good idea to use them during the last month as there is a tiny amount of evidence suggesting it could stunt your babies growth.

The rest of the time as long as you use the blankets on low tempratures there doesn't seem to be any risk, infact the experiments showed a slightly decreased rate of miscarridge among mothers who used electric blankets during this time.

I realise this qustion was asked a while ago, but as this is one of the first pages that comes up when searching "pregnancy and electric blankets" I hope this helps someone

My electric blanket is one of my few pleasures in life:-((( Suppose it will be back to a hot water bottle now then!

Thank you for posting. So... based on what you wrote, I am good to use my blanket for the time being. By the time I'm 7 months pregnant, it should be stinking hot (being summer time!) so, I'm sure I'll be looking for a cold spot... then we'll be searching for the adverse effects of A/C and pregnancy. Sheesh, does it ever end!

"Experts" seem to all say it's fine as long as you're not getting overheated.
Look here: https://www.babycenter.com/406_is-i...n-electric-blanket-during-pregnanc_1246864.bc

No real evidence they are safe. No real evidence they are harmful. :winkwink:

OMG ive been using mine too - I hope it isnt the cause of my brown spotting I have started today!!!!! :( xx

I can relate! I'm in Toronto and it's beyond cold here!!! I found what helps is to turn it on before I get in bed, then take it off as soon as I lay down and bask in the warmth. Anything that raises the body heat is not great. Too bad for me because I'm a heat lover.

Have you had your 1st ultrasound yet?

OMG sometimes I even fall alseep with mine on Preheat, infact it's on right now, i'll be sure to turn it right down, I have noticed I am definitely more cold all the time, having to layer up lots and even having hotter showers, is this normal :S ?

its true! im not so mad at Oh for having to chuck it out after he puked all over it now.. thanks for sharing cos loads of people dont realise but its true! x
